PSM19780614• PUBLIC SAFETY COMMITTEE - CITY OF MUSKEGO MINUTES OF MEETING HELD JUNE 14, 1978 The meeting was called to order at 7.07 P.M. by Chairman Tomczyk. Also present were Ald. Pienkos and Van Lanen, Ald. Wallner, Police Chief Kraus and Mr. Orlo Zlensky. • The minutes of the previous meeting were reviewed and placed on file. In answer to Ald. Van Lanen's request to find out the reason why the speed limit on S.T.H. 24 had been changed from 45 mph to 40 mph, Police Chief Kraus presented correspondence dated 12/13/77, which outlined the reasons for the speed changes on S.T.H. 24 (letter attached to minutes). After discussion, the committee requested Chief Kraus to ask the State High- way Department to place "No Passing Lines (double yellow lines) from Pioneer Dr. to Bay Lane or Lannon Dr. to Bay Lane. Chief Kraus will report back to the committee on this matter at the next meeting. After checking with Supt. Bertram and Police Chief Kraus, Chairman Tomczyk reported that the stop signs could not be tampered with. Ald. Tomczyk requested police surveillance on the intersection of Hawthorne and Somerset to determine the extent of people disobeying the stop signs there. The Police Department will report back to the committee at its next meeting. • Ald. Van Lanen reported that he had talked to Mr. Dick Arrowood regarding his letter to the Safety Committee. The matter has now been cleared up. Ald. Tomczyk will check on a request for "Slow - Children Playing" signs on School Drive and report back to the committee at its next meeting. Ald. Van Lanen reported a sign had been taken from Kingston Drive going northwest towards the lake. Regarding Ald. Van Lanen's request to clarify those people who are authorized to pick up animals. Ald. Van Lanen was concerned about liability to the city. Mayor Gottfried indicated that Attorney Buckley has stated that Mr. Whitehouse's services are based on a contract and that there is no city liability in his carrying out his duties as Humane Officer. After discussion, Ald. Pienkos moved, seconded by Ald. Van Lanen, to request Common Council adoption of Resolution #118-78, Establishing Traffic Regulations on the West Side of Hillendale Drive Between the Area of S6430 and S6632 Between the Hours of 4.00 P M. and 11 00 P.M. Motion carried. • The committee reviewed and placed on file the monthly analysis for May from the Muskego Police Department. Building Inspection correspondence from May 14th to June 14th, 1978, was received and placed on file. Humane Officer Reports from May 1, 1978 to May 30, 1978 were received and placed on file. it Ald.
