MINUTES OF MEETING HELD APRIL 20, 1978
The meeting was called to order at 7.15 P.M. by Chairman Schaumberg.
Also present were Committee members Pienkos and Wallner, Mayor
• Gottfried, Aldermen Tomczyk and Van Lanen, Lt. Zabel, Tony Zinski,
Dorothy Van Lanen, Janice Heckert, Ken Czaplewski, Carol Markiewicz,
JoAnn Karklus, Daryl Karklus and Ron Markiewicz.
Several citizens listed above appeared to discuss with the committee
the matter involving the closing of the Hillview Drive lake access.
Several viewpoints were expressed both in favor and in opposition to
the closing of the access. Ald Schaumberg moved to leave the status
of Hillview Drive as it presently is. Seconded by Ald. Wallner. Motion
carried unanimously. The committee agreed to pursue other alternatives
to alleviate traffic problems generated by those using the access to
Little Muskego Lake. Suggestions which were made included additional
surveillance by the Police Department of the "No Parking" zones and
the possibilityof placing a ridge at the end of the road to slow
traffic.
Lt. Zabel appeared at the meeting regarding the appointment of John
• Helm to the Emergency Police Unit. Mayor Gottfried advised the
committee that he has recommended the appointment. Ald. Wallner
moved to accept Mayor Gottfried's recommendation that John Helm be
appointed to the Emergency Police Unit. Seconded by Ald. Schaumberg,
motion carried.
Ald. Van Lanen requested that the committee consider the recommendation
of the Welfare Committee that the speed limit on S.T.H. 24 be reduced
to 35 mph. Mayor Gottfried explained to the committee and the
interested citizens present the procedure which must be followed
whenever a change in the speed limit on a state highway is desired.
He further advised the committee that the State Highway Commission
is reviewing the matter and will probably present the committee with
their findings in about a month.
The committee reviewed the reports of the Humane Officer from 3/1/78
to 3/31/78. Same placed on file.
The reports of the Building Inspector from 3/29/78 to 4/19/78 were
received and placed on file.
The rescue reports from the Tess Corners Fire Department from 2/28/78
to 3/31/78 were reviewed and placed on file.
The monthly report of the Police Department for March, 1978, was
• received and placed on file.
The committee reviewed a request from Jerry Maus for a slalom course
on Little Muskego Lake for June 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 19, 20, 21, 22
and 23, 1978. The committee noted that Mr. Maas had a slalom course
on the lake in 1977 and that no problems were reported. Ald. Wallner
moved to recommend approval of the request. Seconded by Ald. Schaum-
burg. Motion carried.
A communication from Park and Recreation Director Steve Pischke
ORregarding the need for an ordinance to prohibit motarized vehicles
from public maintained skating rinks was received and referred to
Rules, Laws & Ordinance Committee.
Ald. Schaumberg moved to adjourn. Seconded by Ald. Pienkos, motion
carried. The meeting adjourned at 8.15 P.M.
