PSM19770519PUBLIC SAFETY COMMITTEE - CITY OF MUSKEGO • MINUTES OF MEETING HELD MAY 19, 1977 The meeting was called to order by Acting Chairman Wallner at 7.10 P.M. Also present were Committee Member Ald. Pienkos, Ald. Van Lanen, Police • Chief Kraus, Mrs. Dorothy Van Lanen and Mrs. Jerri Nelson. The minutes of the previous meeting were reviewed and placed on file. Correspondence received from Ald. Constantineau regarding signs in the area of Wentland Property Owner's Association. Ald. Pienkos moved to recommend to the Public Works Department that the "No Thru Street" sign be moved on Wentland Dr. closer to Hillendale. Seconded by Ald. Wallner, motion carried. Ald. Pienkos moved to recommend to the Dept. of Public Works that a diamond shaped sign be placed at the "T" of Wentland Drive (Caution or Dead End). Seconded by Ald. Wallner. Motion carried. Ald. Pienkos moved to recommend to the DPW that a "Children Present" sign be erected on Wentland Drive. Seconded by Ald. Wallner, motion carried. Ald. Pienkos moved, seconded by Ald. Wallner,to recommend to the Public Works Committee that a berm be placed between the property on Wentland Drive and Gold Drive. Motion carried. Ald. Pienkos moved, seconded by Ald. Wallner, to recommend to the Public Works Committee that a berm be placed on the property between Shore Lane and Lochcrest Blvd. Motion carried. Ald. Schaumberg arrived at 7 35 PM and assumed the Chairmanship of the meeting. Correspondence received from Ald. Van Lanen was reviewed and placed on file Correspondence received from Police Chief Kraus was reviewed and placed on file. Correspondence received from Ald. Pienkos thanking the Police Department for the opportunity to tour the city with officer on duty was reviewed and placed on file. Ald. Pienkos moved to recommend to the Common Council adoption of a resolution authorizing the lease agreement between the City and the water patrolmen. Seconded by Ald. Schaumberg, motion carried. The committee received Muskego Police Department Affirmative Action Plan. The committee will review same at the next meeting. • Correspondence received from Building Inspection Department from April 29, 1977, to May 9, 1977, was reviewed and placed on file. Tess Corners Fire Department reports from 4/2/77 to 4/30/77 were received and placed on file. • Tess Corners Volunteer Fire Department Rescue Service Reports from 4/1/77 to 4/30/77 were received and placed on file. Humane Officer Reports from 4/3/77 to 4/29/77 were received and placed on file. Discussion took place regarding a joint effort on the part of Muskego, Town of Vernon, City of New Berlin and Village of Big Bend to establish a humane animal shelter. It was agreed that a letter be sent to rep- resentatives from Big Bend, Vernon and New Berlin setting a date for an informal meeting to discuss the possibilities of the joint effort. Ald. Pienkos volunteered to be the laison member at that meeting. Ald. Pienkos moved to recommend to the Common Council that a public hearing regarding the treatment and disposal of animals in Muskego be held. Sec- onded by Ald. Wallner. Following discussion the motion carried with Ald. Schaumberg voting "no". Ald. Van Lanen brought to the attention of the committee that he has received complaints that people other than the dog warden are picking up animals after being authorized to do so by the dog warden. An ordinance relating to regulations of emergency alarm systems will be discussed at�'the next meeting. Ald. Pienkos moved to adjourn, seconded by Ald. Wallner. Motion carried.
