PSM19761117PUBLIC SAFETY COMMITTEE - CITY OF MUSKEGO MINUTES OF MEETING HELD NOVEMBER 17, 1976 • The meeting was called to order by Chairman Schaumberg at 7:15 P.M. Also present were Aldermen Wallner and Pienkos, Police Chief Kraus and two citizens, Mrs. Dorothy Van Lanen, W181 57838 Valley Drive and Mrs. Gerri Nelson, W124 S6928 Skylark Lane. Mrs. Van Lanen and Mrs. Nelson appeared before the committee to • request at what cost the Waukesha County Humane Society would take over the services now assumed by the Muskego Humane Officer. Both requested a cost breakdown in this matter and the possibility of a contract being established between Muskego and the County for these services. Both ladies mentioned that possibly they could have a list of volunteers who would provide the service free of charge that presently the Humane Officer is doing. The money now being spent could therefore be placed in an account (gaining interest) with the possibility of the purchase of a vehicle in the future. Chief Kraus will send correspondence to Waukesha County Humane Society to find out information. Also, copies of this correspondence will be sent to both Mrs. Van Lanen and Mrs. Nelson. The committee deferred discussion on tornado warning systems until the next meeting. •Upon recommendation of the Police Department the committee felt there is no reason to install stop signs at the corner of Highway 45 and Union Church Road. Ald. Wallner moved that the Public Safety Committee recommend to the Common Council that a resolution be adopted to indicate "No Parking" on the west side of Luehring Drive for both north and south sections of the street. Seconded by Ald. Pienkos, motion carried. Ald. Schaumberg moved, seconded by Ald. Wallner, that the Public Safety Committee recommend to the Public Works Committee that Luehring Drive to opened to make a through street. Motion carried. The committee discussed the need for bicycle trails in the city and is awaiting the appointment of a committee consisting of representatives of various citizen groups. Police Chief Kraus reported that he had corresponded with Mr. Jorgenson of the State Highway Transportation Dept. requesting additional signs on Highway 15 and Highway 24 westbound in Hales Corners and southbound on Highway 100 in Hales Corners indicating direction of Muskego. Mr. Jorgenson replied that no further action will be taken concerning Highway 15 and that he will refer to Milwaukee County Highway Dept. • for further action regarding the signs in Hales Corners. Humane Officer reports for months of Aug., Sept. and Oct. were reviewed and placed on file. Building Inspection reports for the month of Nov., 1976 (through the 12th) were reviewed and placed on file. Rescue reports for the month of October were reviewed and placed on file. Chief Kraus reported that the State Highway Dept. had conducted a survey on the possibility of erecting 4-way stop signs at the intersections of Hwy 24 and Lannon Dr., and Hwy 24 and Tess Corners Dr. and that they felt the signs were not warranted. The committee discussed buoys on Little Muskego Lake and the decision was made to contact Larry Schneider of the Little Muskego Lake Advisory Board for that board to make a recommendation. Ald.
