PSM19760922• PUBLIC SAFETY COMMITTEE - CITY OF MUSKEGO MINUTES OF MEETING HELD SEPTEMBER 22, 1976 The meeting was called to order by Acting Chairman Wallner at 7:15 P.M. Also present were Alderman Pienkos and Police Chief Kraus. The minutes of the previous meeting were reviewed and placed on file. The committee discussed the request of the Police Department to the Park and Recreation Department to have Horn Drive widened. It was the committee's opinion that this project would be helpful for safety vehicles such as fire and rescue units. The committee deferred the discussion on tornado warning systems until their next meeting. The committeealso deferred action to -the - next meeting the recommendation that-2-No Parking" -signs be placed on the northwest -corner -of Union Church Road and U.S. Highway-45: A police .department report -indicated -- that only two accidents. occurred during -the -past -three years at this intersection. In regard to the city's request to the State of Wi-sconsin.-Department of Transportation for traffic -signals at -the intersection --of Highway 45 • and 36 Chief Kraus reported -:that the State will conduct a survey of that -intersection .to -determine-the- feasibi-lity_.of.Tlacing_-4-way--".stop-".__ signs .at the_.intersec-tion-initia ly _and__some.time. in=1977 =ins=tali-ing---=_ -_..traff-ic signals. The committee -considered-the_recommendati-on-of:the_polic-- e- department - regarding the -need for "stopp" -sign-on- the -northwest -corner of Poe'-s Pl. and Sherwood Circle. Ald. Pienkos moved to recommend to the Common Council the placement of a "stop" sign on the northwest corner of Poe's Place and Sherwood -Circle to control southbound traffic on Poe's Place. Seconded by Ald. Wallner, motion carried. The committee discussed with Chief Kraus the need for "No Parking" signs on Luehring Dr. and Hillside Dr. and agreed with his recommendation that existing "No Parking" signs on the west side of Luehring Dr. be replaced. ..-Ald. Wallner moved to recommend -Council- approval -of -.the creation of a "No Parking" zone on the west side of Hillside Dr. from Hillview Dr. to Lochcrest Blvd. Seconded by Ald. Pienkos, motion -carried. r Ald. Wallner moved to recommend Council approval of the establishment of a 45 mph speed limit on Kelsey -Dr-. from Racine Ave. to the west city limits. Seconded by Ald. Pienkos, motion carried. • The committee discussed with Chief Kraus the need to correct the present "No Passing" lines on Kelsey Dr. west of Racine Avenue. The matter was referred to the Public Works Department. The committee discussed the need for bicycle trails in the city and is awaiting the appointment of a committee consisting of representatives of various citizen groups. The committee referred to the police department the matter of contacting the State Highway Department regarding information signs indicating "Muskego" at Janesville Road in Hales Corners and at the off ramp at Highway 15 and Racine Avenue. (as recommended. -by the Police Department) the drafting of an ordinance that would amend Chapter 12 of the Municipal Code to include the parking lot area in the definition of a licensed premise. • Correspondence from the Building Inspection Office covering August 12th through September 15th was reviewed and placed on file.
