PUBLIC SAFETY COMMITTEE - CITY OF MUSKEGO
MINUTES OF MEETING HELD AUGUST 18, 1976
The meeting was called to order by Acting Chairman Wallner at 7:10
P. M. Also present were committee member Alderman Pienkos,
Alderman Constantineau, Mayor Gottfried and Sgt. Robert Klenz.
. Mr. Jerry Moss, 19036 West Bay Court, appeared before the
committee to request permission to place buoys on Little Muskego
Lake for the purpose of delineating a ski slalom course. The
course would be used from Monday, August 23, to Saturday, August
28. The committee agreed that there appeared to be nothing in the
city's ordinances that would require city approval for the slalom
course water markers. Attorney Buckley will be contacted to verify
this.
The committee discussed the recently adopted, 25 mile speed limit
on Martin Drive from College Avenue to Ranch Drive. It was agreed
that although the request from the residents involved a 25 mile
limit to Lannon Drive, the committee would not take further action
until they have reviewed the matter periodically with the Police
Dept.
The committee discussed the Police Department's recommendation
regarding the opening of Tower Drive to Horn Field or widening
of the existing entrance. The committee noted that the Park &
Recreation Dept. is negotiating with the electric company
regarding the matter. It was also the committee's decision that the
opening up of Tower Drive is not a priority item and the committee
is not in favor of that proposal.
The committee is awaiting action from the Rules, Laws & Ordinance
Committee regarding a request from the Police Dept. for an
ordinance legislating and controlling outlying rafts on lakes
within the city.
Ald. Schaumberg arrived at 7:50 P. M, and assumed the chair.
The committee discussed the need for a tornado system warning for
the City of Muskego. Further discussions will be held with the
Fire Departments to determine the possibility of using their sirens
since an entirely separate warning system would be very expensive.
The committee will review at its next meeting the Police Department's
recommendation that "No Parking" signs be placed on the northwest
corner of Union Church Road and Highway 45. The Police Department
was directed to review its records to determine the history of
accidents at this intersection.
Correspondence from the Building Inspector's office, covering
July 23 through August 6, was received and placed on file. The
committee reviewed the humane officer's reports and they were
placed on file. Rescue reports for the month of July were
reviewed and placed on file.
The committee discussed the recommendation of the Police Dept.
for traffic controls at the intersection of Highways 36 & 45.
Ald. Pienkos moved to recommend to the Common Council the adoption
of a resolution urging the State of Wisconsin to install traffic
control signals at the intersection of Highways 36 & 45. Ald.
Wallner seconded the motion and the motion carried.

Ald. Pienkos requested that the committee authorize a traffic survey
by the Police Dept. to determine the need for stop signs on the
northwest corner of Poe's Place and Sherwood Circle. The committee
. directed the Police Dept. to make the survey.
Ald. Constantineau requested the Police Dept. to survey Hillside
& Luehring Drive to determine if "no parking' on the west side of
the streets would be advisable.
The committee referred to the Rules, Laws & Ordinance Committee
the matter of amending Chapter 20 of the municipal code regarding
propeller driven air boats.
Ald. Pienkos moved for adjournment at 8:25 P. M. Ald. Wallner
seconded the motion and the motion carried.
Respectfully submitted,
F
