PSM19740516PUBLIC SAFETY COMMITTEE - CITY OF MUSKEGO MINUTES OF MEETING HELD MAY 16, 1974 • The meeting was called to order by Chairman Ron Ford at 7:50 P.M. Also present were Aldermen Wallner, Knudsen and Chief Kraus. The committee discussed a request for a "stop" sign at the intersection of Sunnyhill Drive and Prospect Drive and at the intersection of Westlyn Drive and Prospect Drive. It was their decision to have the Police Department conduct a study on the request. Ald. Ford moved to recommend that the Mayor appoint Mr. Kevin McGrorty to the Emergency Police. Seconded by Ald. Wallner, motion carried. Communication was received from the Town of Vernon Chairman, Clarence Peterson, directed to the Mayor, dated April 11, 1974 indicating that the Board of Supervisors of the Town of Vernon did not feel that a police feasibility study would be practical at this time. Placed on file. The committee agreed to have the Police Department conduct a survey of the intersection of Vine Street and Bellview Drive. The committee to review the_hil.l: on Westwood Drive and consider the Police Department recommendation made August 30, 1972. Ald. Ford moved to approve that the Finance Committee consider the purchase of Bicycle License Tabs instead of plates for the 1975-1976 licensing year. The cost for the Tabs being 2000 at 6t each, whereas the • plates are 20t each for 2000. Seconded by Ald. Knudsen, motion carried. Ald. Ford moved to have Chief Kraus determine the actual cost of the bicycle license program to find out whether it may be possible to reduce the License fee. Seconded by Ald. Knudsen, motion carried. The committee received a petition to reduce the speed limit on Durham Drive from 45 m.p.h. to 35 m.p.h. The committee moved to recommend to the Common Council that the speed limit on Durham Drive be changed to 40 m.p.h. between Woods Road and North Cape Road. Seconded by Ald. Wallner, motion carried. The committee agreed to ask the Public Works Committee to consider futher reconstruction of Durham Drive to eliminate the unsafe conditions. This is in regards to the hill in front of the Benke farm and the curves along the Schaefer property. Ald. Ford moved to have the Public Safety Committee recommend the Common Council of the City of Muskego to request the County Highway Commission to restudy the intersection of S.T.H. 24 and C.T.H. "Y" for additional safety control. Seconded by Ald. Knudsen, motion carried. The committee will be reviewing street name changes in the near future. •Ald. Knudsen moved to review the parking on S.T.H. 24 between Westwood Drive and Lannon Drive. The committee to refer to the Public Works Committee the cost of a shadow lane on the south side of S.T.H. 24 in front of Parkland Plaza. The committee reviewed the rescue reports from 3/30/74 to 4/13/74 and nineteen (19) reports were approved for payment and billing and one (1) _ was approved for payment only. Twenty-nine (29) Humane Office Reports from 4/1/74 through 4/30/74 were reviewed and placed on file. Thirty-nine (39) Humane Office Reports from 3/l/74 through 3/31/74 were reviewed and placed on file. Ald. Ford moved to adjourn, seconded by Ald. Wallner, motion carried.
