PSM19730628PUBLIC SAFETY COMMITTEE - CITY OF MUSKEGO MINUTES OF MEETING HELD JUNE 28, 1973 • The meeting was called to order at 7:20 P.M. by Chairman Czarnecki. Also present were Aldermen Wallner and Knudsen, Mayor Gottfried and Police Chief Kraus. Ald. Foldy moved for the approval of minutes of the previous meeting held on June 7th, as mailed. Seconded by Ald. Wallner, motion carried. The committee reviewed Chief Kraus's report covering repairs for squads • from February 13, 1973 to May 4, 1973. He reported that the total cost was $1,635.27. The report was referred to the Finance Committee and Chief Kraus was directed to contact American Motors to pursue possibility of a rebate for repairs to one squad car held over because failure of American Motors to deliver new cars. The committee discussed proposed ordinance covering a misdemeanor to resist, hinder or taunt a police officer in the performance of his lduties. Chief Kraus requested permission to withdraw the proposal. The Safety Committee concurred. Ald. Wallner moved that Lt. Scholz be allowed to attend the F.B.I. National Academy from 9/17/73 to 12/7/73 at a cost of $275.00. Seconded by Ald. Czarnecki, motion carried. Ald. Czarnecki moved to recommend to the Rules, Laws & Ordinance Committee • the placement of moving the "Yield" sign from the northeast corner to the northwest corner of Hedgewood and Southern Drive. Seconded by Ald. Wallner, motion carried. Ald. Czarnecki moved that the Public Safety Committee recommend to the Council to change the name of the east -west portion of Southern Drive to Hedgewood Drive. Mayor Gottfried to contact residences involved. Seconded by Ald. Wallner, motion carried. The committee recommends to the Public Works Committee the placement of two "Caution - Children Playing" signs and three 25 m.p.h. to be located on Southern Heights Drive between Martin and Lannon Drive. Ald. Wallner moved for adoption, seconded by Ald. Czarnecki, motion carried. Mayor Gottfried reported that the Wis. Electric Power Co. will charge the City of Muskego $241.00 to relocate a street light at the corners of Highway "Y" and "24". The committee directed the Mayor to communicate with one in higher authority of the Electric Company regarding the matter. The committee directed Mayor Gottfried to write to City of New Berlin to request "No Parking" signs on both sides of Emerson Drive from Highway "24" south to curve. •Ald. Czarnecki moved to request the Waukesha County Highway Dept. to install de -acceleration lanes for southbound traffic on Highway "Y" as it approaches Hi-Y Drive and Hillendale Drive. Mayor Gottfried to correspond with the County Highway Dept. Seconded by Ald. Wallner, motion carried. The committee discussed the need to restrict parking on the south side of S.T.H. 24 from the intersection of Westwood Drive to the second drive west of Westwood Drive. Ald. Czarnecki moved to direct Mayor Gottfried to contact • the State Highway Commission regarding this matter. Seconded by Ald. Wallner, motion carried. Chief Kraus reported on court cases disposed from 7/1/72 to 6/30/73, 76 - entered plea of "guilty" 26 - cases dismissed 61 - entered plea of "Not guilty" 10 - cases transferred 80 - cases adjourned Communication from Sylvia A. Wilm, 6220 S. Baas Dr., New Berlin, expressing concern over traffic hazard at the corner of Hwy. 24 and Tess Corners Dr. received and placed on file. Tess Corners rescue reports from 5/16/73 to 6/28/73 were reviewed. 20 for payment and billing and 7 for payment only. Ald. Wallner moved to adjourn, seconded by Ald. Czarnecki, motion carried.
