PSM19720524y SAFETY COMMITTEE - CITY OF MUSKEGO • MINUTES OF MEETING HELD MAY 24, 1972 The meeting was called to order at 7:15 P.M. by Chairman Sapp. Also present were Alderman Ford, Mayor Gottfried and Police Chief Kraus. Mr. Steve Morris and Mr. Martin Mayer, Auxiliary Police Members, appeared at the meeting. Ald. Sapp reported on insurance costs for Emergency • Police as follows: Annual premium charge would be $246.00 for Workman's Compensation and full liability for 12 men working a minimum of 8 hours per month. (Sentry Insurance) Chief Kraus will prepare a proposed budget for the annual operation of the Auxiliary Police and present it to the Finance Committee as soon as possible. Ald. Ford moved to recommend Council approval to -disband the Auxiliary Police and for the formation of the Emergency Police under the direction of the Police Department. Seconded by Ald. Sapp, motion carried. The Model Parade Ordinance was reviewed and will be referred to City Attorney Buckley for a legal opinion. • The question of "No Parking" on College Ave. was tabled as there has been no word from Tony Rosecky. The Somerset "Stop Sign" controversyywas deferred until the next meeting. The committee is awaiting a report on this matter from Ald. Foldy. A complaint of rifle fire near Bay Lawn Subdivision by Clark Barry was discussed. Chief Krause reported that no tither complaints have been received and no activity of this type fgas been noticed. Chief Kraus will confer with Mr. Barry. A letter was received from Chief Kraul proposing that the Public Safety Committee recommend to the Finance Committee that the Police Department be allowed to expend funds from the Training Account to pay for the use of the high school gymnasium for two (2) hours each Saturday morning. Aid. Ford moved to recommend that the Finance Committee approve the necessary transfer of funds within the Police Department budget to allow for the physical improvement program. Seconded by Ald. Sapp, motion carried. A communication was received from the Office of the Governor advising the city of approval of a grant request for refunding of a Juvenile • Officer. Communication placed on file. Mayor Gottfried reminded the committee to work on street name changes. Mayor Gottfried suggested that the committee invite Mrs. Carl Lassanske to appear before the committee to discuss her views on humane shelters. The intersections of Southern Heights and Hedgewood Drive and Bay Lake and Hilltop were discussed with regard to "Stop Sign vs. "Yield" sign requirements. The Police Dept. will survey and make a recommendation. A request by Mrs. Joan Hudziak for a street light at the end of Gold Drive was reviewed. Committee members will look at the area. Ald. Ford requested clarification of city policy on use of minibikes on city,.streets and in city parks. Chief Kraus explained the law regulating the use of minibikes. Ald.
