PSM19710826PUBLIC SAFETY COMMITTEE - CITY OF MUSKEGO MINUTES OF MEETING HELD AUGUST 26, 1971 The meeting was called to order by Chairman Sapp at 7:25 P.M. Also present were Aldermen Dumke, Schaumberg, Narlock and Foldy, Mayor Gottfried, Lt. Kass of the Police Department and Fire Chief Fred Utpatel and Assistant Chief Werner Bierbach of the Tess Corners Fire Department. The representatives of the Tess Corners Fire Dept. were present to discuss the payment of rescue bills and to request that the streets in the area of isthe fire station remain open as much as possible during sewer construction. They also expressed concern of their department's ability to adequately serve the residents along C.T.H. "00" while this highway is being recon- structed. Mayor Gottfried to contact County Highway Officials. Gold Drive traffic pattern was discussed. Ald. Dumke moved to defer action on the traffic regulations until the next meeting of the Committee in order to give the committee an opportunity to view the area. Seconded by Ald. Schaumberg. Motion carried. Ald. Schaumberg moved to defer action on the placement of stop sign on Somerset Drive until the committee can further investigate. Seconded by Ald. Sapp. Motion carried. isAld. Schaumberg moved that in accordance with Police Dept. Survey that there be no parking restrictions in the vicinity of Emerald Drive and Jewel Crest Drive. Seconded by Ald. Dumke. Motion carried. Ald. Sapp moved to recommend to the Rules, Laws & Ordinance Committee that Lannon Drive have a speed limit of 30 mph from its southern limits at Woods Road to the northern limits at Martin Drive. Seconded by Ald. Dumke. Motion carried. The Committee discussed the possibility of an ordinance regulating meetings and parades. Ald. Dumke moved to defer action on same until a more thorough study can be made. Seconded by Ald. Schaumberg, motion carried. Ald. Schaumberg moved to defer action on a proposed ordinance to prohibit residential picketing. Seconded by Ald. Sapp, motion carried. Ald. Sapp moved, as seconded by Ald. Dumke, to recommend to the Finance Committee, denial of payment in the amount of $23.90 for Officer Wilcox's wrist watch lost while apprehending alleged burglers. Motion carried. Ald. Schaumberg moved, as seconded by Ald. Dumke to recommend, in accordance with recent Police Dept. Survey, that advisory speed and caution signs be placed on Muskego Drive. •A revised Police Dept. Traffic Dept. Survey of Boxhorn Drive will be presented at the next meeting of the Committee. Ald. Schaumberg moved to have the Public Works Dept. place directional parking area signs placed on Oak Grove Drive near Lions Park. Seconded by Ald. Dumke, motion carried. Twenty seven (27) Rescue Reports for period from 7/4/71 to 8/14/71 were reviewed. Twenty four (24) were recommended for payment and billing and • three (3) were recommended for payment only. Correspondence from Engineer Clark Barry was received regarding the blocking of\roads by sewer contractors. Mayor Gottfried to contact Michaels Const. Co. regarding the keeping of streets open in the vicinity of the Fire Dept. Ald. Dumke moved to have a Police Dept. Traffic Survey taken on Woods Road and the area of Sandy Beach Drive. Seconded by Ald. Schaumberg, motion carried. Police Dept. Budget to be considered and discussed at the next meeting. Ald. Sapp moved to adjourn, seconded by Ald. Schaumberg, motion carried.
