PSM19700107r 6 PUBLIC SAFETY COMMITTEE - CITY OF MUSKEGO MINUTES OF MEETING HELD JANUARY 7, 1970 The meeting was called to order at 7:45 P.M. by Chairman O'Connell. Also present were Aldermen Burgermeister, Wollman and Sapp. The minutes of the previous meeting held on December 17, 1969, were reviewed and placed on file. Chief Utpatel, Assistant Chief Bierbach and Fireman DuPlanty of the Tess Corners Fire Department appeared at the meeting to discuss with the Committee the discharging of fireworks within the City. Chief Utpatel supplied copies of the State Statutes covering fireworks. He requested that the Committee recommend to the Common Council the adoption of a. City ordinance covering the discharge of fireworks. Ald. Wollman moved to request that the Rules, Laws and Ordinance Committee consider this request. Seconded by Ald. Sapp. Motion carried. Chief Utpatel requested a "Fire Truck Exit" sign at Janesville Road and Tess Corners Dr., a "Fire Lane - No Parking" sign at the gate is of the Tess Corners School, and "No Parking" signs in the area of the hydrant at Bay Lane School. Alderman Wollman will discuss these three requests with the Public Works Committee at its next meeting. Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Johnson and Mrs. Walter Kopplin, both of Lannon Drive, appeared to relate to the Committee experiences which they have had with snowmobilers on their properties. They complained of trespassing, excessive noise, especially late at night, and the possibility of property damage. Mrs. Kopplin suggested registering or licensing these machines so that they could be easily identified. Mr. Chester Gleason and Mr.'Perry of the Muskego Icetronauts Club appeared to defend the sport. Mr. Gleason stated that he felt that perhaps it was just a few who were causing the problems which the people spoke about. He stated that the Club would be willing to do anything to assist the Police Department in any way that they could. Police Chief Kraus related to the Committee some of the problems that they have been faced with. He supplied the Committee with a copy of the snowmobile complaints for the month of December, 1969. Chief Kraus requested that Mr. Gleason convey to the membership of his Club the discussion at this meeting, including complaints and possible remedies. Ald. Burgermeister suggested a possible hour re- striction, especially during the week. Ald. Sapp moved to request that Mr. Gleason, Chief Kraus and Ald. O'Connell meet prior to the next meeting of this Committee to discuss possible solutions and report back to the Committee on January 21, 1970. Seconded by Ald. Wollman. Motion carried. • Sixteen (16) Tess Corners Rescue call reports were reviewed and fifteen (15) were approved for payment. The Police Department Reports for November and December were reviewed and'placed on file. Ald. Sapp moved to adjourn, seconded by Ald. Wollman. Motion carried. The meeting adjourned at 9:25 P.M.
