PSM19690917PUBLIC SAFETY COMMITTEE - CITY OF MUSKEGO • MINUTES OF MEETING HELD SEPTEMBER 17, 1969 The meeting was called to order by Chairman O'Connell at 7:50 P.M. Also present were Aldermen Sapp, Burgermeister and Wollman. The minutes of the previous meeting, held on August 20, 1969, were re- viewed and placed on file. • It was decided by the Committee to view the area of Highway 24 between Lannon Dr. and Bellview Dr. where street lights have been requested immediately following this meeting. Mr. Fred Bauer of W184 S6549 Ruby Dr. appeared to request street lights on Jewel Crest Dr. at the intersection of Diamond Dr. and both the entrance and exit of Ruby Dr. Ald. Burgermeister advised the Committee that these street lights had been requested approximately 14 months ago and the reason they were not installed at that time was the fact that this area is part of a subdivision, which the City had previously decided not to include in its Street Lighting Program. Mr. Bauer stated that this particular area had the highest vandalism rate in the City. Ald. Burgermeister requested that the Committee look into the possibility of lighting this area and also re -marking the one-way traffic • on Ruby Dr. Mrs. Thomas Slattery, S76 W19999 Sunny Hill Dr., appeared to request a change in the Firearms Ordinance because of unauthorized shooting in that area. Mrs. George Guehring, S68 W16916 Martin Dr. stated that with only two police officers on duty at certain times, it was difficult for the Department to handle the citizen's complaints. Ald. Sapp advised the citizens that the Firearms Ordinance would be discussed at the Rules, Laws & Ordinance Committee meeting on September 18, 1969 at 7:30 P.M. Police Chief Kraus appeared to discuss the Police Department's 1970 Budget. Ald. Sapp made a report to the Committee regarding the Police Departments handling of bicycle violations. It was the Committee's opinion that they were being handled properly. Chm. O'Connell reviewed Lt. Kass's request dated Sept. 11, 1969, regarding •the flashing yellow lights at Tess Corner's School. Ald. Sapp moved to have City Engineer Kelsenberg determine the costs of installation. Seconded by Ald. Wollman. Motion carried. Ald. Wollman requested that Chm. O'Connell contact Lt. Kass regarding the Police Department's request for additional passing lanes along Highway 24 at various intersections. Chm. O'Connell will report at the next meeting. • Ald. Wollman moved to adjourn the meeting for the purpose of viewing the areas where additional street lights have been requested. Seconded by Ald. Sapp. Motion carried. The meeting adjourned at 9:55 P.M.
