PUBLIC SAFETY COMMITTEE - CITY OF MUSKEGO
• MINUTES OF MEETING HELD FEBRUARY 5, 1968
Chairman Linck called the meeting to order at 7:06 P.M. Present
were Mayor Gottfried, Chief of Police Kraus, Alderman Lentini and
Alderman Narlock.
The Minutes of the previous meeting were approved and placed on file.
Chairman Linck indicated that the Fire Departments and the Rescue
Squad contracts expire on February 15, 1968. Alderman Lentini moved
to recommend to the Finance Committee the approval of new contracts
with the same terms for the Tess Corners Fire Dept. Seconded by
Alderman Linck, motion carried.
Six zoning violations were received from Zoning Officer Lee. They
were reviewed and placed on file.
Chief of Police Kraus and the Committee reviewed and discussed the
first Consolidated Monthly Report of the Muskego Police Department
for the month of January, 1968.
Rules and regulations covering the operation of snowmobiles were
•reviewed and discussed. A number of Muskego residents joined the
meeting and entered the discussion. Mr. Flintrop presented a letter
from a Sixth Ward taxpayer requesting that careful consideration
be given to all factors involving snowmobiles before any changes are
made to present ordinances. Also presented was an article from the
Waukesha Freeman in which experiences at Okauchee Lake were related.
Chief of Police Kraus prepared a proposal to adopt the new State
laws governing snowmobiles and it was read to the Committee by Alderman
Narlock. After further discussion, Chairman Linck referred the
proposals to the Rules, Laws & Ordinance Committee.

A proposal to change speed limits for Boxhorn Drive and Ryan Road
was submitted by Chief of Police Kraus. Alderman Linck moved to
recommend to the Rules, Laws & Ordinance Committee approval of a 25 mph
speed limit on the North and South leg of Boxhorn Drive and also on
Ryan Road west of Boxhorn Drive. A correction of present posting of
Ryan Road to a speed limit of 35 mph is referred to the Public Works
Committee.
A dangerous traffic situation at the intersection of old State Highway 36
•and its junction with new State Highway 36 was indicated in a survey
submitted by Police Chief Kraus. Alderman Narlock moved to recommend
that a resolution should be drafted requesting the State of Wisconsin
to take action correcting the present traffic condition. Seconded by
Alderman Linck. Motion carried.
Police Chief Kraus reviewed the present condition of the water supply
at the Police Station. Alderman Narlock moved to recommend to the
.Finance Committee approval of the installation of a Culligan automatic
water softener on a rental basis at the Police Station. Seconded by
Alderman Linck. Motion carried.
A review was made of a traffic survey by the Police Department recommending
City of Muskego signs at its limits.
A Police Department report submitted by Sgt. C. Kass indicating a
number of intersections not signed or signs in poor condition was
reviewed.',

• Police Chief Kraus submitted a proposal to adopt an ordinance pertaining
to leaving keys in motor vehicles and leaving the motor running when
vehicle is unattended. Alderman Linck moved to recommend to the Rules,
Laws & Ordinance Committee the adoption of an ordinance covering the
leaving of keys in a motor vehicle and leaving the motor running when
vehicle is unattended. Seconded by Alderman Narlock. Motion carried.
Alderman Narlock moved to recommend to the Rules, Laws & Ordinance
Committee the adoption of an ordinance pertaining to the possession of
intoxicating liquors, wine or fermented malt beverages by a minor.
Seconded by Alderman Linck. Motion carried.
A traffic survey file indicating a dangerous traffic situation on
Highway 24 at Bellview Drive will be tabled until sewer lines are
installed.
The dangerous traffic situation at the intersection of Highway 24 and
Poe's Place is referred to the Public Works Committee with a recommend-
ation that a resolution should be drafted requesting the State of
Wisconsin to construct a shadow lane on Highway 24.
Alderman Linck moved to recommend to the Rules, Laws & Ordinance
Committee the adoption of a 35 mph speed limit on all of Woods Road.
• Seconded by Alderman Narlock. Motion carried. This recommendation
is also referred to the Public Works Committee for their review.
Alderman Narlock moved to adjourn.
The meeting adjourned at 9:20 P.M.
