PSM19671218PUBLIC SAFETY COMMITTEE - CITY OF MUSKEGO 0 MINUTES OF MEETING HELD DECEMBER 18, 1967 Chairman Linck called the meeting to order at 7:08 P.M. Present were Mayor Gottfried, Chief of Police Kraus, Alderman Lentini and Alderman Narlock. The minutes of the previous meeting were read by Alderman Narlock. Alderman Lentini moved to accept the minutes as read and place them on file. Seconded by Alderman Narlock, motion carried. A review was made of the position of Humane Officer and his assistant. Alderman Lentini indicated that a brother of Acting Humane Officer, Duane Whitehouse,was interested in working as the assistant. Police Chief Kraus will confer with Duane Whitehouse to determine working schedules for the present situation and will make a report at the next Safety Committee meeting. Police Chief Kraus discussed the present status of the squad car exchange and maintenance contracts. It was indicated that City Attorney Hippenmeyer was preparing such contracts and that Police Chief Kraus was to meet with Mr. Salentine for a review of some of the provisions. The Safety Committee indicated approval of two • changes in the contracts; one to provide for an exchange at a min- imum of 22,000 miles or 120 days instead of the previous 90 days, the other to provide for a 30 day cancellation notice by either party. A review was made of bids received for new heating and air condition- ing units at the police department. Four bids were submitted as follows: Bohrer's $ Gerth Company Muskego Steel & Furnace Co. Demshar Sheet Metal Heating 446.00 465.00 Air Conditioning Total $ 812.00 839.00 586.00 932.00 No breakdown by unit $ 1,258.00 1,304.60 1,518.67 1,500.00 Alderman Narlock moved to recommend to the Finance Committee the acceptance of the lowest bidder, Bohrer's. Seconded by Alderman Linck. Motion carried. A review was made of advertising specs that will be used for squad • car gasoline bidding. Police Chief Kraus will refer these specs to City Attorney Hippenmeyer for review. Alderman Lentini indicated that there was a growing concern of problems with the bridge on Gold Drive. After some discussion it was referred to the Public Works Department. Reference was made to changes in the policy of handling sick leave payments. Alderman Linck indicated that the Finance Committee had some changes under consideration. Four complaints were received from Zoning Officer Lee. They were re- viewed and placed on file. The procedure to be used in processing complaints of the Zoning Officer and the Police department was reviewed. Mayor Gottfried in- dicated that a. conference of the Mayor, the Zoning Officer and the Police Chief would be held to determine necessary communications be- tween departments.
