PSM19670828PUBLIC SAFETY COMMITTEE - CITY OF MUSKEGO
• MINUTES OF MEETING HELD AUGUST 28, 1967
The meeting was called to order by Chairman Roland Linck at 7:05 P.M.
Present were Chairman Linck, Alderman Lentini, Alderman Narlock, Mayor
Gottfried, Police Chief Kraus and Mr. Hamersma of the Motorola Company.
Alderman Narlock reported a complaint received at 5:00 P.M. from Mr.
Daliege, who was quite concerned by an excessive amount of black sooty
smoke that was coming from the asphalt plant located at Highway Y and
Tans Drive.
Two communications were received from Building Inspector Gerald Lee
concerning zoning violations and were placed on file.
Only one bid was received for the equipment and its installation of
the central communication system. This bid was submitted by the
Motorola Company and Mr. Hamersma was present to discuss the equipment
and answer any questions.
Police Chief Kraus presented a communication from Mr. Hamersma explaining
• in more detail a face panel to be used with the console cabinet.
The total of the bid was $13,985.00 and compares with the budget total
of $13,514.00. Some discussion followed in an effort to lower the bid
amounts. It was indicated that some of the equipment in use with the
present communications system could be substituted, enabling a deletion
of such items in the bid specs.
Chairman Linck moved to recommend the acceptance of the Motorola Company
bid by the Finance Committee with such possible exceptions as Police
Chief Kraus would check out prior to the Finance Committee meeting.
Motion was seconded by Alderman Lentini. Motion carried.
A discussion of Dispatcher's salary schedule with Police Chief Kraus
indicated that four dispatchers would be required to operate the commun-
ications center on a continuous basis. The salary schedule as previously
submitted provided for an annual salary range of$4,800.00 to $6,000.00
in a total of six grades. Alderman Lentini moved to recommend that the
Finance Committee amend the Police Department salary schedule to include
the dispatchers as submitted by Police Chief Kraus. Seconded by Ald.
Linck, motion carried.
