1. Call to Order: President D. Dominski called the meeting to order at 7:03 PM.
2. Roll Call: Also present were J. De Vito-Scalzo, S. Gould, R. Jankowski, R. Melcher, S. Oneson, S.
Snyder and Director H. Sanhuber. K. Huebner was absent.
3. Pledge of Allegiance: recited.
4. Statement of Public Notic:e: Given in accordance with the open meeting law on June 19, 2007.
5. Approval of Minutes: J. De Vito-Scalzo moved to approve minutes of the April, 2007 meeting and R.
Melcher seconded. Motion carried.
6. Next Meeting Scheduled July 25,2007.
7. Treasurer's Report: S. Sliyder moved R. Jankowski seconded motion to approve payment of May
expenses of $64,918.29. Motion carried. S. Snyder moved R. Jankowski seconded motion to approve
payment of WCFLS May expenses of $9,989.95. Motion carried. S. Snyder moved R. Jankowski
seconded motion to approve payment of June expenses of $62,619.20. Motion carried. S. Snyder
moved R. Jankowski seconded motion to approve payment of WCFLS June expenses of $16,138.26.
Motion carried.
8. Communications
a. Communications: Hee:eived the resignation of R. Rammer. Holly will send a thank you to Bob
for his many years of selvice to the board.
b. Guest Comments: None.
c. Comment Forms: The information was circulated.
9. Old Business
a. FOL: The wine tasting event made a profit of about $8,300. There will be "Get to know the
Friends" sessions Dn July 16 at 10 am and 7 pm. There ar,e bookmarks in the library for
people to leave thE!Ír names for info on the Friends.
b. Trust Fund: As of .June ~~1, 2007 the total is $47,261.12.
c. Librarian's Report: A press release about food pantry collections and a news article on the
raptor program were circulated. Murder & Mayhem is scheduled for November 10 from 10 am
to 5 pm. Jan/Feb and Mar/Apr State newsletters and WCFLS Trustee Connection were
distributed.
d. weFLS: Info on the ACT 150 proposal for library capital cost funding was distributed.
10. New Business
a. Pending Fine Disputes: None.
b. AutomationfTechmlogy: Remote access to databases anel Email reminders of upcoming due
date's info was distributed. There will be Café upgrades on July 15 and August 12.
c. Annual Report: None.
d. Customer Survey: Discussion on Sat/Sun hours. Holly will check on standards for hours of
operation. There are diff,erent standards when the City population reaches 25,000. R.
Jankowski moved for approval and J. De Vito-Scalzo seconded motion to approve the survey
with S. Snyder's changes. Motion carried. The assessor will provide mailing labels. We need
to send 2,173 surveys to get the proper number of responses.
c. Director Evaluation Process: New job descriptions are being written because of all of the
changes in personnel. We still need to determine how to evaluate the Director.
f. Appoint Nominating Committee: R. Melcher and S. Gould were appointed.
g. New Hires: R. Jan'<owski moved for approval of the promotion of Tammy Chaneske from
Shelver to Library Aide. The motion was seconded by R. Melcher and carried.
h. Budget 2008: We need to approve the budget at the next meeting. There will be a capital
expense for a new copier. The Mayor is planning to keep the budget the same as last year.
Holly will meet with IT and Maintenance department to determine needs for next year. Utility
expenses will increase about 7% next year per We-energies. R. Melcher requested the
addition of a half time reference person at the COW meeting.

LIBRARIAN'S REPORT
May + June 2007
The library received a framed and autographed poster featuring a Milwaukee appearance by late author,
Kurt Vonnegut. It was a gift from Ardith Faucett, widow of former MHS librarian, Art Faucett. Jane and I
are hoping to use it as the fo(:us of a display, and then will find wa.1I space to show it.
Barbara Harvey, who presented thc! popular program on raptors, donated a collection of recent books on
the topic, some video materiêll, and two framed photographs.
The Muskego Women of the Moos.! donated funds for use in the children's area. We bought a new globe,
and will look to update "country" books-a perennial school assi~lnment.
The Socher family gave us anothel' impressive specimen of "green plant," species unknown-at least

me! It's large and healthy, and will bear a donor plaque. 1.
The Lions Club and the library hosted a visit by Lenny Quinn and Ihis Leader Dog, Mikey on Monday, May
14th. Leader Dogs help visually impaired people. Tess Corners Sc:hool also visited.
Once again we're hoping people will plant an extra row of producE~, and bring it in for the New
Berlin/Muskego Food Pantry.
The Muskego Memory Project is continuing. Sonia has assumed responsibility for collecting oral
histories. People can make an appointment at the library, or if they are homebound, we can go to them.
With Friends' sponsorship, we've hosted visits by Max Allan Collins and "The Mystery Mavens." Mystery
writers Shirley Damsgaard and Denise Swanson will be here Saturday, June 30th at 1 :00 P.M.
Murder and Mayhem in Muskego is scheduled for Saturday, November 10th from 10-5.
The summer reading program is currently enlivening the library. The programs run the gamut from magic
to chemistry. Some are gifts of thE~ Friends. WCFLS and the Whitnall Park Rotary Club sponsor others.
Sam Weiss and members of his troop sold popcorn on summer reading program sign-up day to help
finance the amphitheatre project.
Carolyn Brady's work was featured in May in the lobby cases. Shl! is teaching Park & Rec courses this
summer on "altered books" .md "élrtist trading cards." The first process involves turning a used book
into a piece of art, and the second uses paper, paint, and collage to create coloriul 2.5" x 3.5" cards for
display, gifts, or swap.
The June artist is Sandra Habrat:. Her watercolor paintings featurE! wildlife and flowers, and she credits
Bert Ponzi as her teacher.
Thanks go to Diane Dominski and Russ Jankowski, who have each agreed to serve another term on the
board.
Congratulations to Marie Lund, our newest reference librarian, who recently completed her coursework.
Our newest Aide, Kelly Pottel', has resigned, as she has found full-time work in her field of study. We
have received permission to fill tht! job, and have recommended the promotion of Tammy Chaneske from
within. The resulting openin!:J in the Page job has been approved for filling, and has been posted.
Penny served as storyteller for Holy Apostles School and MATC education classes. The honoraria she
received went into the trust fund.
Sentry and WTMJ teamed up for a brat sale, and the library receiv,ed a check for $386.
Weeding is underway in both the éldults' and children's sections. Shifting is also being done.

completing thirty years at thE~ library.

INTERLIBRARY COOPERATION: WCFLS is hoping the capital costs initiative (outlined in a recent
mailing) will pass the county board. Under its provisions, non-liblrary communities, such as Town of
Vernon, would help pay for debt rE~tirement and other library capital projects funded by library
communities.
LIBRARY TECHNOLOGY UPDATE: WCFLS has been working out problems with from-home access to our
shared databases. Paula ha!i prepared a sheet on what's availablt~, and how to get there. The sources
include BadgerLink, Contemporary Authors, Contemporary Literary Criticism, Newsbank, Heritage Quest,
ReferenceUSA, and others.
Another phase ofthe planned CAFÉ upgrade is scheduled to take place Sunday, July 15, when the iBistro
from-home catalog will not be available. An outage is also being 1:>lanned for Sunday, August 12th for the
server upgrade.
We are collecting e-mail addl'esse~; for those people who would like a reminder that their materials are
coming due. We will also be usin~J e-mail instead of phone calls t,O alert people that reserved items have
come in, and for overdue notices itS well. We expect to collect addresses throughout the summer, and
begin the actual notification!i in Snptember.
