1. Call to Order: President 1. Uttke called the meeting to order at 7:02 P.M.
2. Roll Call: Also present were N. Borgman, C. Gore, R. Jankowski, R. Rammer, S. Snyder, and
Director H. Sanhuber. D. Dominski arrived later. J. De Vito-Scalzo and S. Oneson were absent.
3. Pledge of Allegiance: recited.
4. Statement of Public Notice: Given in accordance with the open meeting law on January 18, 2006.
5. Approval of Minutes: Minutes of the December 28, 2005 meetin9 were approved on a motion by R.
Rammer seconded by C. Gore.
6. Next Meeting Scheduled February 22, 2006.
7. Treasurer's Report: S. Snyder moved D. Dominski seconded motion to approve payment of final
December expenses of $67,155.47. Motion carried. S. Snyder moved D. Dominski seconded motion
to approve payment of WCFLS final December expenses of $1,529.80. Motion carried. S. Snyder
moved D. Dominski seconded motion to approve payment of January expenses of $57,193.53. Motion
carried. S. Snyder moved D. Dominski seconded motion to approve payment of WCFLS January
expenses of $526.78. Motion carried.
8. Communications
a. Communications: None.
b. Guest Comments: None.
c. Comment Forms: Patron comment forms were circulated.
9. Old Business
a. FOL: Wine tasting plans on schedule. Spent $2,300 on library programs.
b. Trust Fund: Memorials for Olga Mimier have brought the total to $41,553.14.
c. Librarian's Report: Read and placed on file. Sun article on Charlene's retirement, new book
lists, wine tasting minutes and Book Page were circulated. The library program survey was
distributed. Phase 1 of the library governance study is complete.
d. WCFLS: State and WCFLS newsletters and APL minutes were distributed. Data base usage
doubled in 2005. The wiele area network and badgernet are being updated. ACT 150
committee is reviewing a draft of the report.
10. New Business
a. Pending Fine Disputes: None.
b. AutomationíTechnology: WIFI is available in allliibraries. Online electronic books - Net library
is in the catalog. OverDrive - online audio books is comin~J soon. It is a small collection, but
it's growing rapidly. Som(~ of the public access computers are being replaced.
c. Overdue Procedure: New wording on the second notice was distributed. The area code is
missing on the phone number.

" LIBRARIAN'S REPORT
December 2005-January 2006
. The trust fund hals continued to receive memorials to Olga Mimier. The Friends
eceived a $1,000 gift in memory of former FOL Board memb(~r, Mary Ann Maus.
The farewell party for Charlene was a great deal of fun,. The city did a resolution
honoring her service, and there wa~s an article in the Sun.
The New Year møans the beglinning of meetings after the holiday hiatus. APL met here.
The work of the Act 150 Committee, and the search for a vendor to replace or supplement
WISCAT were discusse!d.
Mary did new books' lists. Displays include "Soup!" and knitting.
A new edition to the needlecl"aft shelves is Maggie's 1f4~/and, a gorgeous craft book that
will appeal to travelers as well, donated by The Yarn House, in Elm Grove.
We were also given a copy of Ian Falconer's Caldecott..winning Olivia.
The library is offøring computer classes, as well as se!)sions on Medicare, Part D,
conducted by a repres(mtative of the Waukesha County Depalrtment of Senior Services.
Sign-up is being held for Lap-sitters and Preschool Pals story times to be held in
February and March. Dr. Seuss Day is set for March 2nd.

Representatives of Himmel 8~ Wilson, the firm that won the governance options study
proposal, have been making the rounds of the county and talking to directors. They have just
submitted the Phase I material, andl as soon as I get a copy, I will report their findings.
The next wine & cheese event-planning meeting is Friday, February 10th at 8:00 A.M.
The programming survey is out near the reference desk, and on the library's Website.
An article should appear in the Sun this week.
A planning meeting for our participation in the statewide virtual reference project is
being held this week. The CAFÉ daltabase is not available 23 hours a day. If maintenance is
needed, it is scheduled for between 1 :00 and 2:00 P.M.

Hi. There are several new things on the next meeting agenda: It's annual report
time, and I'll need Tadd to si!)n the "Statement Concerning Public Library System
Effectiveness." II am enclosing the proposed wording. Tadd and I will also need
. to sign the annual report.
We've had two rE~quests that I've put on the agenda: One is from the VFW, who
want to place a "flag recycling" deposit box on library property, next to the city's
night deposit, out in front of the building. The "'flag bo,xes" are re-conditioned
mailboxes, and the VFW Commander says ours will bE! painted bright red,
with the lettering professionally stenciled. Worn flags are deposited in the box,
and the VFW disposes of them in a legal and ceremoniial manner. There is room
for another box. It-and the one there now-are out of the traffic flow. I also feel
there are not likely to be additional requests of this nature-which is not the case
in the other inquiry, described below.
We've had an informal request (informal, as I have yet to talk directly with the
gentleman), for Troop 18 to display their Eagle Scout paraphernalia here. It
sounds like a permanent display, and I've written to try to get some details-like
how large it would be, but héllve received no response to date. My problem is that
Troop 18 just meets here-like many other groups. We are not their sponsoring
body. Since we have limited room for display, I feel Wl~ should not offer a service
to one group that we cannot offer to another.

Statement Concerning Public Library System Effectiveness
Muskego Public Library, February 2006
The Muskego Public Library Board, on behalf of local library users, appreciates
the many services our library receives through its membership in the Waukesha
County Federated Library System (WCFLS). Attached is a report on system
membership benefits, a document that we routinely share with our city, so they
are kept aware of the system1's role in our daily operations.
We have answerE!d "yes" to tlhe question of system effE!ctiveness because of the
generally positivo communic,ation between the local libraries and the system, due
to the efforts of WCFLS SystE!m Director Tom Hennen éimd his staff. Our library
board members appreciate the system staff's monthly written report, which
makes it easy to Ikeep abreast of current issues. Receiving these reports
beforehand also :saves time at directors' meetings, and it allows library
administrators an efficient way to keep staff members informed about system
activities.
. The growth of thE~ CAFÉ shar,ed automation consortium from the original three
members (Waukesha, Brookfield, Muskego) to thirteen libraries during 2005 was
a significant event. If customer satisfaction can be me,asured by large increases
in the placement of holds and the sharing of materials countywide, the customers
are as pleased by the online catalog as are the llibrarians. For Muskego, the
migration to SIRSI software also represents our first Internet-accessible online
catalog. Online placement of holds and online materials' renewal has been
popular with customers. Wir,eless access also began this year, with the
installation made possible thlrOugh system funding.
WCLFS has applied for and mceived LSTA and other glrants that benefit member
libraries, not only for automation, but also for reading programs, and for service
to special populations.
WCFLS has serv,~d libraries well since 1980. Tom Hennen and his staff continue
the tradition of working with Ilocallibrary staff and boards to_ p)ovide quality
service for all library users. ~ ~

plaques at the library. That is the library board's decision, and I will be happy to

INCIDENTS:
Child reportedly fell in parking lot. No staff mlember saw, and father
declined assistance. Incident report filed with city.
Razor blade found on windowsill in room #5, by child care class.
[Referred to maintenance ,md cleaning crew" though any irresponsible
person could have left it there, or placed it there mal.iciously.]
Floor drain in staff bath backed up. Jill's cleaned the rug for free.
Had another adult miffed because "his" computer was in use; he
snarled at staff using crude language, and flung the door open so hard it
bounced back.
