1. Call to Order: President T. Uttke called the meeting to order at 7:03 P.M.
2. Roll Call: Also present were N. Borgman, J. De Vito-Scalzo, D. Dominski, C. Gore, R. Jankowski, S.
Oneson, S. Snyder and Director H. Sanhuber. R. Rammer was absent.
3. Pledge of Allegiance: recited.
4. Statement of Public Notice: Given in accordance with the open meeting law on July 19, 2005.
5. Approval of Minutes: Minutes of the June 22, 2005 meeting were approved on a motion by D.
Dominski seconded by N. Borgman.
6. Next Meeting Scheduled: August 24, 2005.
7. Treasurer's Report: S. Snyder moved R. Jankowski seconded motion to approve payment of July
expenses of $62,330.02. Motion carried. S. Snyder moved R. Jankowski seconded motion to approve
payment of WCFLS July expenses of $4,453.10. Motion carried,
8. Communications
a. Communications: Welcome new board membel" Josephine De Vito-Scalzo. Holly will write a
thank you letter to Margaret Purser for her service on the board. Patron comment forms were
circulated.
b. Guest Comments: None.
9. Old Business
a. FOL: Sentry is having a pizza burger sale July 29, 30 and 31, with the proceeds split between
the Friends of the library and Muskego Historical Society.
b. Trust Fund: $40,172.73.
c. Librarian's Report: Read and placed on file. The library web page has been updated. New
fiction and non-fiction book lists, Book Page, and Muskego Sun photo of the Heirlooms to go
program were circulated.
d. WCFLS: Trustee Connection for July and the two latest state newsletters were distributed.
10. New Business
a. Pending Fine Disputes: None.
b. AutomationlTechnology: There will be approximately 60,000 duplicate records when the
Consortium libraries are using Café. We will be a part of Virtual Reference Desk, a statewide
demonstration project to provide reference services on a 24/7 basis.
c. Election of Officers: N. Borgman moved for approval and S. Snyder seconded motion for the
slate of officers presented at the last meeting. All officers from last tear will remain for another
term. Motion approved.
d. 2006 Budget: There was a lot of discussion on County standards. The materials budget items
(print and audio-visual) need to be increased by $10,000. R. Jankowski moved for approval of
proposed budget. N. Borgman seconded. Motion carried.
e. Fee Schedule: Standardize policy for refunds on lost items subsequently found. Café proposal
is a nine-week fine free period, after which the item will be declared lost and there will be no
refund if it is subsequently found. Motion to approve second reading made' by R. Jankowski
seconded by D. Dominski. Motion carried.

. LIBRARIAN'S REPORT
June-July 2005
About this time in the summer, some of you may be able to identify with the harassed laldy in our "desperate
housewife" display. Hats off to Tina and the rest of the staff for their creativity, and to George for tracking down
the refrigerator door!
If you haven't visited our Website in awhile, please do so. Jane continues adding special features. One of the
latest is the "Today in History" page.
We received nearly $250 from the Whitnall Park Rotary Club to put toward the purchase of bilingual materials.
Since we are always collecting catalogs and sources, it was not hard to find items to purchase. We concentrated
on Spanish-English.
We received a check from McPherson College in thanks for Penny's work with their MATC students.
The Chamber of Commerce asked for a library profile. We sent them one and modified iit somewhat to use as a
handout at this weekend's Pizza-Burger sale at Sentry. Most of the shifts for volunteers are taken. The Friends
of the Library and the Muskego Historical Society benefit from the sale.
Attendance at summer programs has been high. The Friends and the library system provided a variety of
experiences for children of all ages. Parents seemed equally enthralled. Preschool tours, teen reading groups,
and writing workshops for adults have rounded out the month,
We reached the limit of the number of articles that could be appraised in the three-hour time period at our .eirlooms-to-GO" program, so we are thinking of repeating it in fall. Thanks to Jane for her hard work and good
eas.
Mary has completed more "new books" lists. There were 249 I'eserves on "Harry Potter VI," the last time I looked.
We purchased ten copies, and readers received calls Saturday morning that the books were ready for pickup.
APL and the CAFÉ Circ committee met this month, as well as the database selection group. Many libraries offer
reading and book discussion groups. County librarians will bø meeting here for a workshop and idea-sharing
session.
Reference desk staff members have done some rearranging of the college education and course schedule
materials in an attempt to better group the many useful handouts we receive.

LIBRARIAN'S TECHNOLOGY REPORT

In addition to the meeting of the database committee mentioned above, the LST t~ technology grant
committee has been meeting. We will be taking part in several countywide and statewide projects:
. Wireless access will be installed in August.
. The seven Constellation libraries are set to join CAFÉ the week of August 8th. Linda from our staff will be
tutoring other libraries' staff the way that Brookfield and Waukesha staff helped Ihere on "go live" day.
. We are taking part in statewide "virtual reference." LatE~ this year or early next y.~ar, if you have a yen to
have a reference question answered at midnight, you will have a phone number and/or Website to
consult.
. Downloadable audiobooks will be available from overdrive.com by the end of thE~ year. The collection will
be small and will grow slowly as funds become available. Audible.com was also looked at, but Overdrive
offered more features for less money.
. We will be getting a pocket PC device through a grant next year. This could be lIIsed to do inventory, or as
a portable circulation workstation.
. More Gates Foundation will be offered to staff this fall, focusing on the Microsoft Office products.
. The e-book readers no longer circulate, and are being withdrawn from the collection. Like several of the
other projects listed in this report, we were able to offer them without spending budgeted funds because
of WCFLS's membership in the Wisconsin Public Library Consortium. Representatives from all of
Wisconsin's library systems apply for federal LST A grants on our behalf for demonstration projects.
. Last week, after fifteen months' effort, the title run-togethers in "A," "an," and "the" were finished being
corrected. Many duplicate records have been combined during this process, but since it is estimated that
some 40,000 Constellation records will be duplicates, we all have a lot of work rE~maining. Muskego will
now go back to the beginning of the alphabet to look for other titles where wordl; are run together.
