LIBRARIAN’S REPORT
JanelJuly, 2002
The summer program continues to roll along. We shoved the furniture aside to
make room for the 450 people who mjoyed the “Harry Potter magic show.”
Happy and sad milestones this month include the celebration of Linda Brown’s
25 years at the library, and the passling away of Thelma Anderson, who worked
here from 1974-1998.
The display cases have been graced by the Muskego Lion’s Club’s exhibit in
June, and Gerald Purser‘s art in July.
Jane continues to enhance the library’s Website, www.ci.muskeqo.wi.us/library.
We’ve had just too much “weird stuW’ happening lately, with numerous instances
of “library rage,” arrogance, and surliness from patrons, directed at staff and
other library users. We asked the MPD for a liaison to address a staff meeting,
and had a very informative and reas:suring presentation by officer Gary Mrotek.
We will be following up on his suggestions, and increasing security.
Weeding has begun in the children’s picturebook section. Those get hard use,
and lots of dollars will need to be di.verted into replacement copies-if they can
be obtained. Many titles will be out of print. In such cases, we will consider
sending books to the bindery if the paper is still in good condition, or seeing if
they are available through one of the reprint houses.
The “staff picks” area has proven to be very popular, as have the book displays.
Thanks to Tina, who keeps them stocked.
Quote of the month: “A coupla months in the laboratory can save a coupla hours
in the library.”-Westheimer‘s discovery.
