Weeding is continuing in the medicallhealth sections, and many new books are being ordered and added in this
area as well. New fiction and non-fiction lists were prepared.
AS you may remember, Jane wrote to authors and celebrities asking for a picture in honor of our new building’s
dedication. Mary has taken these, along with newspaper articles, and put them into a binder, which we will be
cataloging and adding to the collection. Very nic,e work from both Jane and Mary1
We received a gift of half the cost of framing our various prints and pictures from Clarie Smith, in the amount of
$638.34. We will be asking the Friends for the other half. We gathered all of the items we’ve been saving,
including the pictures from Dr. Seuss and “Family Circus” cartoonist. Bil Keane.
A donation was made to the trust fund by Wayne 8 Arlene Salentine, in memory of Glen Elger.
We received a gift of math kits from the Kiwanis of Muskego.
Displays this month include the oil paintings of Jloyce Stahl, “creepy crawlies,” breast cancer awareness, and
Freedom to Read, displaying “banned” books.
At a recent City of Waukesha meeting, where library capital expenditures were being discussed, an Alderman
suggested that since there is substantial usage aNf the Waukesha Public Library (roughly 30%) from outside the
city, that the Waukesha library board should looh: for the same percentage of building upgrade funding from

Linda, Joe and I spent yesterday at Waukesha PL. looking at a piece of library software called “Unicorn,” from a
vendor named SIRSI. It was an extremely impressive demo. The system is fully integrated and developed, not
“vapor ware.” Although it is full-featured, it looked highly intuitive. It meets all present IS0 prOtOCOlS,
including 239.50, which is needed for one catalog to “talk” to another. The WebCat and the in-house user
interfaces are clean and friendly. Brookfield and Waukesha library personnel were also enthusiastic.
