1, Call to Order: The meeting was called to order by President Christenson at 7:02 P.M.
4. Approval of Minutes: Minutes of the March 22:,2000 meeting were approved on motion C. Schwalbach
3. Statement of Public Notice: Given in accordance with the open meeting law on April 11.2000.
6. Treasurer’s Report: C. Stewart moved 6. Yahr seconded motion to approve payment of bills for the month.
5. Next Meeting Scheduled: May 24.2000.
Computer problems prevented Treasurer’s r,sportfrom processing. Report will be reviewed next month.

7. Communications
a. Communications: Chuck Wichgers is the new Common Council representative to the Library Board.
b. Guest Comments:Tom Hennen WCFL,S Director praised Holly and the new building. The Spring
Trustee Breakfast will be held at MPL on May 20 and will feature e-books, full-text databases,
Badgerlink, and wireless networks. Tom talked about crossover borrowing and explained the “Best
Fit Funding Formula” Tom hoped thal. we would endorse the ACT 150 standards so that they could
be forwarded to the County Board for their action. He also talked about his three questions for the
System. What are they doing that is good? What are they doing that is bad? Where do we want the
System to go?

8. Old Business
a. FOL: $109,000 raised so far^ Donors are invited to an open house on 4-29. Expecting $10,000 from
VFW at the opening. Flag raising, speeches and ribbon cutting on 4-30 at 1:OO PM. We will pay one
third of the cost of the 30 Internet computers. FOL will present the check at the 5-23 Common
Council meeting.
b. Trust Fund No report.
c. Librarian‘s Report Read and placed on tile. Don Carter was the Sun Personality last week. The 0 move went very well. TEACH grant wlill continue through October. SB60, which would have allowed
sharing of library T1 lines, was not approved.

d. WCFLS! Distributed Tom Hennen’s report to APL. WCFLS board will meet at MPL on 5-1 5 at 3:OO
9. New Business
a. Pending Fine Disputes: None.
b. Automatioflechnology: Library sofhvare program will have to be changed. The AS400 is being
shut down. The library is scheduled for 2003. Brwkfield, Muskego. Waukesha libraries have formed
a planning group (BMW) to assess new software.
c. Building Progmm:The weekend festivities were public noticed. Print and Tv coverage is possible.
d. Policy Review: Distributed reformattad policy.
e. ReferencePolicy: C. Schwalbach moved, P. Merz seconded motion to approve the second reading.
f. Study Room Policy: R. Rammer moved, E. Yahr seconded motion to approve. Motion carried.
g. LongRange P/anning:Hold until next month.
h. Fee Schedu/e Changes: R. Rammer nmved, R. Jankowski seconded motion to approve
Amendments to the fee schedule. Motion carried.
i. New Hires:C. Schwalbach moved, C., Stewart seconded motion to approve hiring of Marie Lund as
Library Clerk and Laura Boeck and Shelley Trudeau as Library Aides. Motion carried.
j. County L ibmty Standards: Distributed “Wisconsin Public Library Standards” Third edition. R.
Rammer moved to endorse the ACT *I 50 standards. C. Stewart seconded. Motion carried.

10. All Other Matters: C. Wichgers would like to know of any ACT 150 issues he could address. He is also a
County Board Supervisor. Charlotte is leaving the Board and a new Treasurer will be needed. Nominating
committee will be on the June agenda.

Don Carter was featured as a ‘Muskego Personality” in the Sun.
Before the move we received two large donations. One was of 350 videotapes, many still in their cellophane,
and most popular films for adults and children. Vlle also received a 1.350+ collection of paperbacks. The
videos will be added to our collection, and the paperbacks will be placed on the Friends of the Library sale
Charlene and Penny took part in “Read Across America.“ visiting a school. and reading to the children. Penny
was also a guest at Muskego High School’s child care classes, and at St. Paul’s.
Jane and Penny attended another TEACH session. The grant is being extended through the fall. In addition, I
have indicated our interest in working with the scihools and WCFLS on a new phase of the grant next year.
Jane is planning computer classes to begin in May.
Greenfield PL staff and board toured our new library. as they are hoping to build or expand. The county
children’s librarians also met at the new library, and their comments were extremely favorable.
The MJlS ran a letter to the editor from Joy Both, Director at Sussex-Lisbon, which effectively refuted the
irresponsible ‘porn at your library” editorial referred to at last month’s meeting.
