Russ Jankowski Secretary LIBRARIAN’S REPORT MarchlApril, I999 Phyllis and Rosemary have departed, and we are busy shouldering their load until their positions can be filled, and their replacemonts trained. We received permission to re-fill the vacant positions, and are posting the jobs ,to meet union requirements, but hoping to fill from within. Linda is training Margot to do interloan as the first step in assuming Phyllis’s job. Rosemary and Phyllis wanted me to be sure to thank all of you for attending their farewell lunch. They’ve promised to visit. Speaking of visits, former patron Joyce Laabs was here from Georgia, former Page, Karen Miller stopped in, and so did Debbie Fiereck. children’s librarians met here last week. Little Lambs of Peace daycare was here today for a tour and storyhour. and the WCFLS Jane, assisted by Turtle Island Cultural Center and the Terra Nova Foundation, provided Earth Day stories and exhibits. Presenters were Carl Baker of Terra Nova, and David Robinson, originally from Jamaica, who told stories and sang. Among their choices were Dr. Seuss’s The b, and Susan Jeffers’s Brother Eaqle. Sister Sky, which uses words attributed to Chief Seattle. The Muskego Woman’s Club provided the library with a copy of Betty Czarapata’s book on invasive weeds. Charlene attended “Windows to the Past,” a CCBC-sponsored conference about history in literature for young people. Margot and Judy found “Sane Change” a useful workshop, especially under our present circumstances. Jane went to TEACH grant meetings, including the curricular design portion of the grant, Website design workshop, and an instructlion session on the Gale Research portion of the planning how the Internet instruction sessuons should be structured. She also attended a WCFLS databases. A lot of my time this month went to prepamtion of the library’s technology plan, which should be a part of our eventual long-range planning document. Two large projects which are getting underway are the re-writing ofjob descriptions to reflect changes caused by automation, and the writing of draft policies and procedures for public computer use. The results of the former project will need to go before the finance committee, and those of the latter will be presented to the LB this summer^ I am also re-working the materials selection portion of the LB policy for your review, using recommendations of the WCFLS Intellectual Freedom committee.
