LIBRARIAN’S REPORT
AprillMay 1998
Regular children’s programming is coming to an end, as the Summer Reading
Program begins June 15m. “Books iinto Movies,” the 3d-4m grade reading group,
chose Beverly Cleary’s The Mouse andthe Motorcyc/t?as their favorite book.
The adult book discussion groups take the summer off.
Vacations and ‘flu have slowed ongoing projects somewhat, but we are
chipping away at the cataloging and processing backlogs.
The new PCs and a new printer were installed at the information desk, and
reference staff are getting used to WISCAT on the Web. Because of the city’s
network, we can keep that site up a,nd open all day, and still access other
Internet sites. Today’s weather in Athens, Greece (a recent reference
question) was only about four click:; away. Amazing ...
The display case last month featured wire sculptures done by students at St.
Paul’s, and wire sculpture images Ieant by staff member Thelma Anderson.
This month’s work is painting done in oils and inks by Dick and Joyce Stahl.
A planning workshop, which updated the “roles and goals” work we did some
years ago, was presented by Himmel& Wilson for WCFLS staff. This method
seems practical and service-oriented, and looks like a project we should
undertake once the building is more fully underway.
APL met at Oconomowoc this month, and the Crossover Borrowing Committee,
made up of county administrators, will be meeting June 8*. Ray and I have been
invited to observe, by the Mayor, who is representing Muskego.
