Russ Jankowski Secretary L I i LIBRARIAN'S REPORT January/February. 1998 February 14" was the big day. The circulation portion of the automated system was finally implemented. A scannerlcable problem was resolved quickly, and so far the other hardware is performing as expected. Thanks to Linda Brown's careful planning, the desk staff are doing very well, and have mastered the circulatiion and registration procedures. This week we are entering reserves into the system. When you use the catalog, you will begin to see "checked ouf" 'reserved," and "in process," as well as "available." "Mending," 'bindery." and "very overdue" are other designations which will begin to appear. Eventually we will track interloans as well, and be able to have a record of an item as soon as it is on order. The Waukesha Civic Theater's She1 Silverstein program was pictured in the Sun, and the Zoological Society's snakes and birds of prey drew 217 people. These two Saturday morning programs were a gift of WCFLS. Other reiading groups, day-care tours, and storyhours are progressing as usual. Speaking of children's events, Dr. Suess's birthday is March 2"4. February Artist of the Month, Phil Perlongo, continues to amaze. This artisf who is legally blind, is a favorite withlibrary visitors, who admire his acrylics, and his feisty attitude. Due to space, we will be having a very abbreviated Student Art Month in March. Annual report time was more than unusually frustrating this year, as the city has been without a get me the last of the needed figures yest,erday-and the report needs to be sent to the System bookkeeper since December. Finance Director, Dawn Gunderson, and her staff were able to few hours a day, so my math should be fairly correct. After we have spent an entire year in our tomorrow. It's been a fun week. Fortunately, the staff have allowed me to close the door for a own building, the report will become easictr to do, as more of it will be based on our actual budget figures for maintenance, utilities, insurance, etc. Instead of having to use city hall figures and determine our percentages of cost. Joe Sommers is loading an upgrade this weekend which may cure some hardware problems we and other departments have been having with the last shipment of machines. Charlene's is still not installed. She and Jane went to an Internet-for-Librarians workshop.
