LIBRARIANS REPORT
December, 1997/January. 1998
@ane*s new computer has arrived. but there are sltill hardware problems with Charlene's. The hardware
problems which were plaguing the circulation equipment have been resolved, except for a cable which is on
order, and Roxane from NSC is due to come down February 41h to resolve final questions. We are hoping to go
"live" with circulation Monday, February 16~ or earlier. The circ desk people are checking their own materials
in and out, and adding new patrons to the databace daily. Linda has amassed fines on her card SO Cin: People
can accept partial payments. override the fines, etc. We reference desk people are not up to speed yet. but
will be by the time we go up.
Volunteer Edith Wollerman was featured as a "Muskego Personality" in the Sun.
Besides the usual children's programming, we am taking part in the Bucks' Reading Challenge, and have
recelved two free programs through WCFLS. One Is "Poetry of She1 Silverstein." presented by the Waukesha
Civic Theater, and the other is "Care for Critters," presented by the Zoological Society of Milwaukee County.
We received a $1 50.00 donation to the library trus:t fund from the estate of Margaret Lindhorst, and have
received about a dozen feature films on videocassette from library lover Julie Borgealt.
We received word from Melanie at WCFLS that $l,D9,000 from last year's ET6 grants has been released. This
will mean that WCFLS will be able to make a 75% match on the cost of data lines, and that some databases will
be able to be provided. Rules and guidelines concerning the $100.00-per-month T-I lines have been
present because the city hall building already has a data line, but we have been informed by WCFLS that we
recommended to the Public Services Commission by the TEACH Board. We are not taking part in this gmntat
will receive parity through grant funds, or next year when we need to install a line into the new building, SO
Muskego will not be treated unfairly.
Pny attended meetings of the Intellectual Freedlom Committee and the Literacy Council this month.
WISCAT is now available on the Web at wiscat.bKdart.com
The Sun put our request for homebound delivery volunteers on the front page of the paper, and right now we
have more volunteers than clients. Perhaps we can solicit names of those needing the service in the same
way!
The display case has been home to several interesting exhibits. Bert Ponzi's watercolors were displayed in
November. Staff member, Jane Genzel, who is involved in greyhound rescue, provided a display on Greyhound
Jeremy displayed a variety of his award-winning z~rt in various media.
Pets of America-Wisconsin's activities. The January artist is Jeremy Sanders, son of Alderman Dave Sanders.
