LIBRARIAN'S REPORT
SeptemberlOctober. 1997
catching obvious typographical errors. and placing the new card, the old and new registration information,
Last Friday we finished running 15,500+ patron borrower cards. Staff is now tearing them down,
and any outstanding fines in one place, to facilitate the swapping of old cards for new ones. When people pick
up their new cards, their identity will be confirmed, they will sign their library cards, and the cards Will be
laminated. In order to avoid placing old fine infomation on the computer, we will be requesting that people
clear up any outstanding charges before they get their cards. We had to reschedule the first training Session
with NSC. but will be having them come down as soon as possible. Joe Sommers has loaded the latest
upgrades and program enhancements as of today.
Penny provided a storyhour at the recent ELusiness Expo. and we had a handout and pulled some library
materials for exhibit.
Work of the Norse Rosemalers' Associatioln is on display this month.
Phyllis attended an ILL meeting.
The Friends of the Library did pay for our ad in the forthcoming Woman's Club directory.
Donna Schmid was honored for twenty-five years of service to the library. Her wide reading and
intellectual curiosity make her an asset to the staff, and particularly effective at the information desk. It was
lovely to see so many staff and Library Board members there to congratulate her and thank her for her good erk.
The Trust Fund stands at $55,237.36.
At this poinf our budget is intact as submitted.
Ray and Don and I will be meeting with the Mayor and Jerry Olson from Durrant on Friday, to discuss
costs, space, building timetable, etc. Library staff have been meeting weekly to discuss the Building Program
Statement in light of the time which has passed since it was written.
Staff have also been preparing the annual .fee review.
Phyllis submitted the annual periodical order. By pre-paying, we can save some money.
I am on vacation the week of November 3d.
