LIBRARIAN’S REPORT
AugusUSeptember. 1997
August is one of our quiet months. (The others are May and December.) That being the case, we got some
extra work done, including processing new nonfiction for homework assignments, and new books on tape.

Staff are entering the backlog of patron applicaticsns into the computer, in preparation for printing of patron
Linda and I attended the annual Users’ Group meeting of AARCS, our library soffware program. It was held in
Brillion, the home of the vendor, NSC. We will be hosting the conference (in our new facility!) in 1999. When
we first began to hold meetings, there were over -150 concerns we felt the vendor needed to address. This
year there were only about fifty-progress. Libralrians from as far away as Texas, Florida and the Carolinas
attended. Next year the conference will be held in Colonial Williamsburg, and we are planning for Linda to
attend.
Jane attended a workshop for book discussion leaders. “Murder by the Book.” our new discussion group had
its first meeting, and decided to read the sequel to The Big Sleep, Perchance to Dream, by Robert B. Parker-
Children’s librarians met. as did the literacy council. Penny also attended a workshop on grant preparation as
it relates to literacy. The System is writing a speciial needslliteracy grant for 1998.
The Creative Photographers’ Guild has work on display this month. Be sure to catch FOL member, Jerry
Stueber’s lunar eclipse.
Children’s fall programs are underway, including the first meeting of the “Books and Movies” discussion group. aPL meetings have continued to focus on the crossover problem, as well as on design of the wide-area
network for resource sharing.
We received a $1.100 materials grant from WCFLS, which was spent on the children’s section.
The city and library’s post office box has changed from 903 to 749.
A child user donated a copy of his favorite video, “Toy Story.”
We received a $50.00 donation to the print materials fund from former LB member Paula Martinez.
I am planning to be on vacation October 3-13.
