Carter at 8:45 P.M.. Barbara Yahr, Secretary. pmtem LIBRARIAN’S REPORT AugusUSeptember. 1997 August is one of our quiet months. (The others are May and December.) That being the case, we got some extra work done, including processing new nonfiction for homework assignments, and new books on tape. barcodes. Circ system training begins October 2:2, when staff from NSC will be working with Linda and Jane. Staff are entering the backlog of patron applicaticsns into the computer, in preparation for printing of patron Linda and I attended the annual Users’ Group meeting of AARCS, our library soffware program. It was held in Brillion, the home of the vendor, NSC. We will be hosting the conference (in our new facility!) in 1999. When we first began to hold meetings, there were over -150 concerns we felt the vendor needed to address. This year there were only about fifty-progress. Libralrians from as far away as Texas, Florida and the Carolinas attended. Next year the conference will be held in Colonial Williamsburg, and we are planning for Linda to attend. Jane attended a workshop for book discussion leaders. “Murder by the Book.” our new discussion group had its first meeting, and decided to read the sequel to The Big Sleep, Perchance to Dream, by Robert B. Parker- Children’s librarians met. as did the literacy council. Penny also attended a workshop on grant preparation as it relates to literacy. The System is writing a speciial needslliteracy grant for 1998. The Creative Photographers’ Guild has work on display this month. Be sure to catch FOL member, Jerry Stueber’s lunar eclipse. Children’s fall programs are underway, including the first meeting of the “Books and Movies” discussion group. aPL meetings have continued to focus on the crossover problem, as well as on design of the wide-area network for resource sharing. We received a $1.100 materials grant from WCFLS, which was spent on the children’s section. The city and library’s post office box has changed from 903 to 749. A child user donated a copy of his favorite video, “Toy Story.” We received a $50.00 donation to the print materials fund from former LB member Paula Martinez. I am planning to be on vacation October 3-13.
