Linda and Elaine have spent even more hours on this project. The next step involves printing some 16,000 library cards, matching them with registration and outstanding fine information, and working out the log@tics of exchanging the old library card for the new one. We may need to call on Friends, Library Board members and others to staff the registration tables. The staff will also be undergoing training, and there are several behind-the- scenes automation tasks proceeding as well, such as reference section and subject heading work. The Friends are hosting a lunc, heon for library volunteers to celebrate the end of barcoding. It will be held Tuesday, August lgm at 11:30 A.M. in the library. Jane and I took a one-day Introduction to the Internet class at UW-M. My new equipment arrived two weeks ago, and I have been struggling to learn it in the midst of on-going activities. Vacations have ,cut into my time at my desk, and we have an employee who is out now, and who will probably be using the Family Medical Leave act to care for her spouse, so time has been limited. However, I have searched the Library of Congress catalog, (AWESIDME!) and used the Internet to answer a few reference questions. We are asking for the Internet at the reference desk next year, and for patron use in 1999-r as soon as we are in a few facility. It is budget time, and we will need to adopt a budget at the next meeting. I will want to meet with Dawn Gunderson .to discuss how we write a budget for the new facility. In our operating budget, we must at least recover the cut in the print budget we suffered last year, and we must finally begin to place funds in the audio-visual materials account. I will have a budget in the mail to you shortly. Summer programs have been very well attended. The Friends have reimbursed us for reading group materials, and for the visit by the Timestep Players, who did Huck Finn.
