Russ Jankowski Secretary L1:BRARIAN'S REPORT April/May, 1997 Peace and Mustard Seed day c.xe centers came for tours and a storyhour, and Penny was a guest at Lakeview School. Final spring sessions of storyhours and reading groups were held. Jane went to a "Using the Internet in Your Job" workshop. topics included sources for librarians on the Internet, as Well as Linda and I attended a $meeting of the county catalogers, as the discussion of book bindery firms. While we have always been pleased with the quality of Heckman's re-binding, it is located out-of-state, so we generally only do one Drder a year, which keeps books out Of circulation too long. Needless to say, we're also comparing prices Of the various firms, and what services those costs include. If approved by the Council, we should shortly have a new copier. The next issue's column will focus on audiobooks and video cassettes, and will give us an opportunity to thank the many city groups who've helped with donations to those areas. We received the state aid payment from WCFLS of $4,443.00. Letters were written, as requested by WCFLS, to State Senator Lynn Adelman, and to Representative Scott Gunderson, asking for their Wisconsin proposal. We also are asking for mandated reduced support to include public libraries in Governor Thompson's TEACH telecommunications costs for public bodies to allow us to more easily make electronic information available to everyone, regardless of whether they can afford computer technology at home; increased computer networking among libraries would enhance our ability to share scarce resources.
