Russ Jankowski, Secretary LIBRARIAN'S REPORT April, 1994 Business continues brisk, anc. if it follows the usual pattern it will remain so until the end of the semester. The WCFLS state aid check arrived in the amount of $4,350. The WCFLS board will be meeting here June 20th. We are waiting for prices to replace the carpeting in the library unwary customers, posing a potential safety hazard. We will use entrance corridor. In some c:ases the fraying loops may trip WCFLS funds to cover the cost.. As a part of a WCFLS grant to help us comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act, our full-time staff heard a presentation on service to the deaf and hard-of-hearing. Special awareness is called for on the part of the staff, as people don't "look" deaf, and so one might not be aware there is a problem. We have been given two devices, the "LoudR" and the "pocket talker. 'I One will be at the information desk, and the other at the checkout desk, as soon as appropriate signaqe arrives from WCFLS. Penny attended a meeting for children's librarians, and Charlene went to a workshop on AIDS-related materials. We received $150 from the MUSKEGO LAKE SPORTSMEN'S CLUB toward the purchase of hunting and .fishing videos. We received a complaint from the city hall staff about the noise and commotion which occur when storyhour is dismissed. We have been asking parents for year:; to stay with their children, not to let them run in the library, etc., to no avail, so I am not sure what good a memo will do, bu.t I will write one. Short of passing out muzzles and whips ... Th,?re was a suggestion that the children use the outside East entrance, but the steps leading down to the basement are too steep, and the parents who bring the children often have even younger ones in tow. Automation projects this month included entering the author authority records, finishing fiction and non-fiction database problems through the Dewey 400s, checking the addition of materials which did not come over on the original tape strip, adding tags and subject headings for audio-visual materials cataloging, continuing the subject heading purge, and beginning to catalog videos directly onto the computer.
