LIBRARIAN'S REPORT
April, 1994
Business continues brisk, anc. if it follows the usual pattern it
will remain so until the end of the semester.
The WCFLS state aid check arrived in the amount of $4,350. The
WCFLS board will be meeting here June 20th.
We are waiting for prices to replace the carpeting in the library
unwary customers, posing a potential safety hazard. We will use
entrance corridor. In some c:ases the fraying loops may trip
WCFLS funds to cover the cost..
As a part of a WCFLS grant to help us comply with the Americans
with Disabilities Act, our full-time staff heard a presentation
on service to the deaf and hard-of-hearing. Special awareness is
called for on the part of the staff, as people don't "look" deaf,

given two devices, the "LoudR" and the "pocket talker. 'I One will
be at the information desk, and the other at the checkout desk,
as soon as appropriate signaqe arrives from WCFLS.
Penny attended a meeting for children's librarians, and Charlene
went to a workshop on AIDS-related materials.
We received $150 from the MUSKEGO LAKE SPORTSMEN'S CLUB toward
the purchase of hunting and .fishing videos.
We received a complaint from the city hall staff about the noise
and commotion which occur when storyhour is dismissed. We have

let them run in the library, etc., to no avail, so I am not sure
what good a memo will do, bu.t I will write one. Short of passing
out muzzles and whips ... Th,?re was a suggestion that the
children use the outside East entrance, but the steps leading
down to the basement are too steep, and the parents who bring the
children often have even younger ones in tow.
Automation projects this month included entering the author
authority records, finishing fiction and non-fiction database
problems through the Dewey 400s, checking the addition of
materials which did not come over on the original tape strip,
adding tags and subject headings for audio-visual materials
cataloging, continuing the subject heading purge, and beginning
to catalog videos directly onto the computer. In addition, the
been determined for WCFLS. juvenile book order has been completed, and indirect costs have
