LIBRARIAN'S REPORT
March, 1994
:, A good month: Checkout of over 13,000, and some Mondays patron walk-in 6 unt reaching 500. Having a second person at the checkout desk is a real
lp, and it means the reference librarian is giving better service too, as
e no longer has to try to staff both desks.
We've done some more rearranging. The juvenile paperbacks and videos are
looking good, thanks to Linda.
Holly has verified and entered the SEES and SEE ALSOS on the AS 400. We
now can go to our volunteer list and recruit help for the next phase of the
project, which is to list any headings from the adult card catalog which do
not appear in the subject authority list. From now on, when new books are
cataloged, we will be able to work right on the computer, using the Library
of Congress subject heading books only as an additional resource, which
will save time.
Linda continues to work preparing adult non-fiction for barcoding. She is
in the 300's.
Charlene is learning the library program. She will be overseeing creation
of cataloging records for the video collection.
We received donations of business books from Lanson Industries and
Precision Screw Thread. The Muskego Woman's Club has donated $200.00 which
has been deposited to the trust fund.
9 etings this month included the WCFLS automation, interloan, and
-hildren's services committees. Representing Muskego on these are Linda,
Phyllis and Penny respectively.
Penny gave a tour to Mustard Seed preschool and spoke to the high school
child care classes, who will be running their annual preschool next month;
The end of student art month has left the library looking bare, or
uncluttered, depending on your preference. The display cases are split
between the Muskego Historical Society's evocation of the Muskego Beach era
and the drawings of Gordon Drake.
Reference and Loan Library of the Division for Library Services is applying
participated in the transition from microfiche to compact disk, and have
for a grant to put WISCAT on-line. In the past seven years we have
seen the number of disks begin to become unwieldy. WISCAT has proven
essential to interloan, cataloging and automation. I have written a letter
in support of the grant to that effect.
In the past we have prepared one monthly mailing/distribution to the
minutes earlier, which means two mailings if the Board is not to get their
Library Board, common council, p:cess, etc. The Council now wants our .
minutes after they have been distributed to everyone else.
