I LIBRARIAN'S REPORT
January, 1994
0 got worse early in the month when Charlene fell in the city hall lobby
There's an old Yiddish folktale called "It Could Always be Worse." It
and broke both bones in her left wrist. The rest of the staff has
been filling in, and Charlene has been valiantly working one-handed,
but ... We hope by the end of February she will be good as new.
We had very few application:; for the new part-time position, but we
did get one from a library :science student (who could not work the
hours we needed) and one from a former employee of New Berlin Public
Library. Her name is Judith Hollfelder, and she begins training
tomorrow. I will be asking for formal Board approval at the March
meeting.
Even as we speak, the update for the library software is being loaded
onto the AS 400. Tomorrow, the update for "Bibliofile" will be loaded
on Linda's computer. Linda is through the "M's" in adult fiction, and
the library program this week. Linda attended the system's automation
I have finished the "title" project. I will begin teaching Charlene
meeting held at Waukesha.
We closed one evening due to the extreme cold.
WCFLS held another planning session where we brainstormed ideas for
achieving their first prior.ity long-range goals.
Penny attended a Zoo grant .in-service, gave a Girl Scout tour, and
spoke about library service:s to teachers at Lakeview.
We received an additional $850.00 gift to the trust fund from AA.
WCFLS will be again offerin83 a $1,500 collection improvement grant to
each library. Last year we bought the McGraw-Hill Encyclopedia of
Science and Technoloqy.
Ever since I can remember t'he library saved old newspapers for the
senior citizens' group. Wh'sn paper began being recycled, Tom Elliott
faithfully carted our bags 'Jf paper to the site. Now that city hall
has their own recycled paper dumpster, he will no longer have to haul
our papers. We thanked him for many years of cheerful volunteering.
The beautiful and nostalgic display is the work of the Muskego
Historical Society. From January's Kachina dolls to February's
Valentines, we certainly give our patrons an eyeful!
