, i) I LIBRARIAN'S REPORT - June 4, 1991
May was a bit quieter in terms of circulation (just over
lO,OOO), but the returns have been heavy.
The staff has been busy getting used to the new reference
desk. It looks huge and empty now, but that's because the
rest of the machinery has not arrived yet.
We have been playing musical desks. Phyllis has moved into
the area occupied by the interlibrary loan computer, which
Joe Sommers has hooked into the AS 400. Cindy has moved
from the lower level into Phyllis's old area, and Rosemary
finally has a desk, Cindy's former "home" in the lower
level. Because Cindy works with overdues and library card
applications when she is not scheduled on one of the desks,
it makes sense to have her upstairs.
The big news this month is that we got the pre-reading
grant, $5,465.00, thanks to Penny's persuasive ideas.
The summer reading program begins this week Thursday, and
visitors to the library will begin to notice road signs and
Wings and Words." A bicycle inspection and registration
long-tailed kites, to reinforce this year's theme, "Wheels,
session will be held Saturday, June 8th, a joint project of
the library and the police and recreation department. A
special event, Thursday, August 1st at 1:OO will be the
winner of the Parents' Choice Award, and a frequent guest On
appearance of David Drake, Wisconsin folk singer, recent
public radio ' s "Simply Folk. "
Our intersystem borrowing payment came, in the amount of
$27,831.00.
We received a $10.00 donation from the Sun Lakes Girl
Scouts, as a thank-you for a library visit. Besides hosting
two scout tours, two daycare centers, and storyhour
sessions, Penny visited several of the schools to promote
the summer program.
The display case continues to attract interesting exhibits.
Nickie Sobolewski's World's Fair memorabilia made a hit with
viewers.
