LIBRARIAN'S REPORT
August 1, 1989
Another crazy 'month! Circulation was 11,400. So far this summer we
have checked out over 24,000 items. We had one day when shelving was
over 1,000 items. Another day, our 25 interlibrary loan requests more
than doubled the length of the :.ist when we received it.
Some routine housekeeping this raonth: the student help is dusting
shelves; our fire extinguishers were checked and upgraded where
necessary; new signs were mounted in the circulation desk area, and in
children, and replace handmade signs in use since before the
the children's section. The latter warn parents to stay with their
renovation. A trip to Waukesha PL, after they re-opened last summer,
gave us the idea.
The weather radio was very useful last week. We were closed Thursday
evening and part of Friday, due to lack of electricity.
We were given four free boxes o:E children's books last month. Some
were from my membership on the I\ICTE book reviewing committee.
came from the librarian Charlen,? and I worked for at UW-M. Others
Charlene has finished weeding tlle vertical file, and has begun
non-fiction.
' We have provided an updated bibliography to Safety City.
($20.00 and up) on the tax rolls. Arrears from non-residents and
Cindy and I are working with Jean Sanders on putting large fines
renters may be referred to a collection agency. Letters will go out
this year in an attempt to identify any potential problems.
The new LePac (CD database) machinery has arrived. We have been given
a more powerful computer, so searching is much faster, even though
there is 25% more space to search. All costs are covered under a
state grant.
A trip to Milwaukee Map Company and the state aid grant has allowed us
to replace our aging road map collection. Wisconsin counties and
cities, major U.S. cities, each state, many foreign countries, and the
Canadian provinces are being added.
Cindy Crebbin is doing an article for the Sun on new children's books,
and will follow up with one on adult reading.
The summer reading program will end August 17th. Penny and Teri will
be riding in a jeep during the upcoming Muskego Community Fest parade,
and representing the library. A Safari day at the Milwaukee zoo, and
other events will bring the program to a close. Playground visits, a
bedtime storyhour, a craft pro~ram, a bug safari, a munchin lunchin,
and Beat-the-Heat movies were held in July to good attendance.
