Meeting adjourned at 8:40 on motion J. liolf. NL Ko erson, secretary Approved : Y, -?, t LIBRARIAN'S REPORT June 6, 1989 Many books returned this month, as the school year draws to a close. Circulation was 9,534. We accounted for 10% of the system's interloan, and 15% of the out-of-system loan during the first quarter of 1989. Committee meetings in May included System Budget, Film Preview, and Special Users. Penny attended an ETN class on children's books. The May artist was Arlene Sei.2'. We will be receiving material,; under the special users' grant worth about $400.00. Project Worker Corliss Rice visited Tudor Oaks and Muskego Nursing Home as a part of the grant, which will enable the library system to sssess the needs of the county's elderly readers. Cassettes w'zre mentioned as being useful to bedridden or handicapped people. The district librarians and reading specialists met here to compile next year's Readers' 'Zhoice book list. It is a pleasure to work with such a dedicated group of professionals. Holly served on an interview jpanel for the City of Milwaukee. The day-long session is held to listen to and rank oral exams for candidates desiring promotion within city libraries. Storyhours concluded this mon.:h. Vernon Daycare and Country Meadows first graders visited. Bedtime storyhour was well-attended. Summer Readinq Program begins June 8th. Be sure to check out the jungle, and take part in the gorilla raffle during our "Summer Safari." .is an experiment, class visits were made to grades K-6. We hope this will result in increased participation. The state aid check, $7,580, has arrived. This is the grant we will be spending on cassettes and replacements, as per the plan filed earlier this year. and look for safety hazards. The visitor found a few things which I asked the city's insurance #company to walk through the library he characterized as "minor" and "routine." As soon as we receive a copy of his report, we will be taking care of these. We have also had a Radon test conducted in the lower level office. We will be taking part in a new county program known as B.E.S.T. which will provide education .and training to people receiving AFDC. We will be using any clients placed with us to do routine or entry-level housekeeping 0:: clerical work. We will also be receiving a YEP student, who will do the same kind of work under a a supervision.
