Meeting adjourned at 9 P.M. - ;iuth Leichtf u_ss , Temporary Secretary * November 3, 1987 LIBRARIAN'S REPORT The British have that expression about what you miss on the swings you make up for on the roundabouts. That is how it has been for us this fall, with circulations in the 9,000's instead of the balanced though by the complexity and amount of reference 10,000-11,000 we were used to in summer. That is more than questions we are asked. Evenings and Saturdays have been particularly taxing in that regard. Children's services have been busy with craft and storyhour programs having a Halloween theme. Children went on a gourd hunt in the woods and took part in a costume parade. We had a visit class at Hales Corners .Lutheran. The district's "Readers' Choice" from WCFLS Children's Consultant Pat Bakula, and from a 5th grade program has been going well, and new storyhours begin November 12th. The October artists were our staff, and a picture in the Sun was very attractive. The November artist is photographer Fred Washa. Workshops this month included "Your Image in the Community," "Fines and Fees in the Library," and "What is a Classic?" The college catalogs have been re-labeled, the plat maps are now more accessible, and an index has been oreoared for the teleohone - . ~~ ~ ~~ L- . ~~ books. We have also been trying to make the Wisconsin Magazine of History easier to use through labeling. ~~ The system has just re-printsd their Union List of Periodivals. Copies have been provided to our library and to the high school. A "union list" shows all the holdings in a particular area. In our case, all 16 public libnries, Carroll, UW-W, WCTI, and other special libraries are listed, plus the periodicals they carry, and what years they have available. This allows us to send patrons direct, and to specifically 'direct ILL requests.
