Due to hospital visits and va'zations we are down to a staff of maintained. Everything else is being swept under the rug, so three in the library this wee:<. Only public services will be to speak, until the forces an? at full strength again. The biggest news is, of course, the departure of Angela Ferber. We will miss her, both on a personal and a professional level. We were so pleased so many of the LB were able to attend her We have been allowed to fill her job, and I have hired - the departure dinner, and we know she was honored by your presence. Public Services Librarian. She is at present coordinating the first use of our new personne:. policy - Melissa Matz as the new summer program for the Park & Rec department, and we will be trying to inconvenience them LIS little, while training Melissa as quickly, as possible. While in her teens, Melissa was a volunteer here. She has also worked on the playgrounds for several years. We are looking forward to we1c:oming her as a member of our staff. The typewriter which was approved in May was ordered and arrived in June. The prices went up dramatically, and so we only ordered one machine instead of the twcs which were approved. The machine Waukesha ordered in December (upon which our price estimate was based) is no longer being made. We do like the newer model which we have gotten, and if it proves as useful as we think it will, perhaps we will be able to afford another such machine in the and I am typing this report on it. When running, it makes no future. Linda Brown received training on its special features, sound, and one of my biggest challenges will be to remember to turn it off when finished with a project! The new sections for the charge desk sections which were ordered in January arrived last week, but we will not be re-arranging that area until we have more hands on deck. One of the final projects Angie was able to complete was silk-screening of the new record bags, which will be checked out with LP's to protect them from rain, etc. Angie and Holly attended the final meetings for the system's 1987 budget. We were able to reach compromises which will be 0 palatable to all libraries, I think. Linda Brown and I also attende,3 a demonstration of the Follett automated circ system, a stand-alonne micro-based alternative cooperation does not prove to 3e possible, such a system is an to the system-wide hookup we are hoping for. If county-wide alternative for the library Muskego's size and smaller. I have purchased a copy of Appleworks and expanded memory (512K) for the second Apple. I experimented with this program at the beginning of this year, and think it will solve many of our clerical problems. You may remember it as the combination word-processor, spreadsheet and database progr.3m I mentioned previously. The "Star-spangled Summer" rea'jing program is going very well, considering the limited time w,? have had to plan and promote it. The system-offered prograins have been well attended, and We think this is wonderful, as it may prevent some of the chronic the children's section has bee.1 busy ever since school left out. summer-loss of reading skills which can hold students back.
