, LIBRARIAN'S REPORT
This has been a wild month as far as business goes. While the librarians have not
exactly been swinging from the light fixtures, it has been close. Both circulation
and shelving were in the 11,000 range. Over 3,000 questions were answered.
Spring always brings meetings, too. Phyllis attended an ILL meeting. It looks like
the round robin circuit is getting too big for its britches (i.e., the software which
drives the system.) Brookfield's prob3ble entrance into WCFLS will change the way
things are done as well.
Holly attended two WCFLS budget meetings, and she and Linda went to see a demonstra-
tion of IBM's DOBIS-Leuven system. In the vernacular, it stinks. I have a more
scholarly report of its faults and failings if anyone is interested. Linda and Holly
also attended an RFI meeting wher'e this system and cost-sharing mechanisms were
discussed.
Angie and Holly went to "Rock and Read' for fifth graders at Muskego El and Lakeview
schools. The latter was a good way to spread the word about intersystem borrowing.
Holly had the pleasure of working with a day-long session of "Books and Pictures fot
Children," at UW-H. Charmian Buhrandt was a student in the class, which was another
pleasant element in a thoroughly enjoy.3ble day.
Marla, Phyllis and Linda attended a pmblem patron workshop at Waukesha PL on May
i:!kesha Police Dept. were on hand to *discuss some of the troublesome situations
Representatives of the Waukesha Zounty Mental Health Assn. and the City of
which can confront library workers, evtfn out here in so-called suburbia.
Again this year we are receiving a $1,300 materials grant from WCFLS. We choose the
books, and they pay the bills. We hav,: not decided.uhere to target the money. Last
year's weeding and inventory showed lots of weaknesses in the areas of science,
technology and geography which we need to consider. ..
The WCFLS budget committee will be considering three pages of recommendations made
by the WCFLS audio-visual committee. ,Among them is a proposal for system-wide owner-
ship of video cassettes. This has proven to be h.igh on the list of items on the
"problem" forms we have been keeping. Other needs are a typewriter and computer
for public use, and access to cassette tapes of books and music. After a few more
months' worth of forms are collected, I wit1 make a detailed report.
Holly will be on vacation from May 17ti-27th, and out-of-town for most of that time.
