LIBRARIAN'S REPORT
June 4. 1985
, -
,-
Special thanks go to district reading specialist, Jo Pirlott, who did a fine job
of promoting the library's summer reading program. Public Services Librarian, Angela
Ferber, will be trying a new program this summer. Called "Reading in the Park," it will
feature daily half-hour reading of books in the gazebo. Angie is trying to recruit and
schedule readers, so if you are interested, see her.
Charlene and Holly have been attending WCFLS budget meetings. The state legisla-
ture is considering raising the indexing level for publ ic library system aid from 11.25%
to 13% of local public library expenditures. If that should pass, there may be more
funds available for system services.
We have completed the survey days needed by the system's automation committee.
On the day after Memorial Day, Mrs. Mimier handed out 183 surveys! Lolly is in the
midst of checking the thousands of titles required by the automation project worker.
There are over 130 pages of titles.
As many people as could be spared went to hear state consultant Anders Dalghren
speak on library buildings. Charlene and Holly also attended film previews at Meno Falls.
The Assessor's office will be using the Lions' Den for their re-assessment - at
least until the addition is completed. We have requested blanket approval from the
common council to use the council chambers for story-hours, summer reading programs,
etc.
-. Retroconversion has completed 93% of what we told the state we would be able to
finish. We should easily be able to reach our goal by the end of the month. The
entire collection, with the exception of reference books, has been searched once.
Workers are searching the new WI SCAT for titles they did not find the first time.
Holly attended the first organizational meeting for Adventuring with Books.
For the next three years, she will be reading 10-15 children's books a month, and
writing reviews of them. A fun committee for a change!
May's statistics: circulation, 8,892; cards issued, 229; shelving, 11,019;
reserves taken, 127; reference questions answered, 878; directional questions answered,
1,357.
Our congratulations to Library Clerk Lolly Bonnell and her husband, Ward, who
are celebrating their 40th wedding anniversary June 7th. Quite an accompl ishment!
