~- Librarian's Report
January 8, 1985
As Christmas approaches, traffic slacks off, which gives the staff time to catch up, shelf-read, and begin to gather year-end statistics.
Preliminary figures indicate that the year's circulation was around 109,000. This is lower than last year, probably because of the longer loan period.
The massive cataloging backlog is virtually gone. For the first time in
four years, we are beginning the year reasonably caught up. It is a good feel ing.
Holly has revised and rewritten job descriptions for all staff positions. These will be given to the board for review in February.
The inventory of the children's section is finished. We are about ready
to begin retroconversion of the children's section, so Holly is giving it one
last week. It is truly amazing how many science, space technology and geography
books we have with 1950's and 1960's copyrights!
Charlene Lenzen wi 11 be taking a course, "Teaching and Creative Writing," held at Bay Lane. The course is in partial fufillment of recertification re-
quirements, and is being offered by UW-M at Bay Lane School.
.-
January saw the beginning of two system programs. One is the "Return
Books Anywhere" option. Books borrowed from any 1 ibrary in the county may be
returned to any 1 ibrary in the county.
Reciprocal borrowing with Racine/Walworth County began this month as well. To date, we have had 20 people register for cards.
The trust Fund has been enriched by several donations:
Mr. and Mrs. Donald Carter, Prospect Aid Society and AA.
Dr. Chambers,
