Summer used to be our quiet time, when we caught up on "behind-the-scenes" work. No more! Our CETA/ YEP help has dried up, too, which means our Librarian lis have to help our one I ibrary page with the shelving, in addition to their own work. Shelving count for July was 11,713. YEP is being taken over by another government jobs pro- gram. So far, although we submitted the form requesting help, we have not been told when (or if) we will be getting any. On August 27th Holly Sanhuber fell over a box of books just back from the bindery, (i.e., waiting to be worked on). She sprained her right knee, shoulder and broke her right thumb. Considering the crowded conditions under which we work, and the multitude of times we carry heavy boxes of materials up and down the stairs, it is a wonder such accidents are not more frequent or more serious. Tudor Oaks has made us a gift of their many jigsaw puzzles, which have been placed on the sale table, and have been sell ing briskly for the benefit of the Friends of the Library. The I ibrary has had much good publicity lately, thanks to the efforts of staff member Angela Ferber, volunteer Jane Mundro, and word processor. The hours of the circulation services page have been changed from evenings to mornings to allow her to shelve books without interruption. When we are busy, it is hard to get to the shelves with materials needing to be put away. - Our A-50 candidates begin school soon. They will also be attending a reference workshop at Waukesha Public Library, sponsored by WCFLS, on Friday, September 16th. We are in the process of weeding the pamphlet material files of outdated or otherwise unneeded items. This space-saving measure is necessary if we are to continue adding shelving. The I ibrary's 1984 budget will come before the Finance Committee on Wednesday, September 21. The meeting begins at 7:00. .so In Holly's "spare time" she has begun working with ISuperScribe," a more^phis- ticated word processing program than IAppleWriter." After revision, it is hoped that the I ibrary board pol icy can go on the computer, which will make future revisions a snap. Former librarian I, Susan (Mauntler) Ell iker, now I iving in Pennsylvania, came back for a visit. We all took our lunch from 12:00-1 :00 (before the Library opened) and enjoyed homemade pasties at the Pioneer. Susan is making use of her many talents in a part-time graphic arts job at Indiana, PA University Li- brary. Holly will be on vacation from September 26-30. In an emergencý she will be available, but hopes there will be no emergencies. -, ...
