LIBRARIAN'S REPORT
May 3, 1983
This is a rather special report for me, as it was one year ago tonight that
the Library Board appointed me to fill the position vacated by Grant Fredericksen.
I hope this will be the first of many anniversaries.
This past month our circulation was 10,620.
shelving total was up; 10,583 this month.
We are 3,662 ahead of 1982. The
The APL automation committee met this past month. They are investigating the
automation of circulation and cataloging for the county.
The Inter-system Borrowing Committee met at Muskego a few weeks ago. They
began to I ist the problems and concerns which would face the county if any across-
the-boarder borrowing were to be proposed.
Charlene Lenzen and I attended a meeting of the Friends of the Cooperative
Children's Book Center, where children's author, and recent National Book Award
winner, Jean Fritz spoke. Her speech was followed by a booksale where we found
some good bargains for the li5rary. At 50ç and 1.00 each, we could hardly go
wrong!
"- I have been appointed to administer an independent study course through the
University of Wisconsin Extension. I will be grading the papers of undergraduate
students in children's literature. While' was on vacation last week, thirty of
such papers arrived on my desk. I had better get busy!
Our phone bill this month listed two calls to Vallejo, CA, for a total of 47
minutes, costing 21.08. Mystified, I called the phone company. When I found out
that the party called was film star Rock Hudson, I was pretty sure we had not made
the calls. After some persuasion, during which I assured the telephone company that
we were closed to the publ ic, and in the middle of a staff meeting at the time the
calls were made, they agreed to credit our account. Ah, Ma Bell!
Addition made at meeting: We see Richard Nilsson is on the Library Board for
another term. We are pleased at the interest and support he shows.
