MUSKEGO PUBLIC LIBRARY MEETING
BAY LANE SCHOOL LIBRARY
JUNE 10, 1970
PRESENT: Mmes. Lenz, Lelchtfuss, Mlmler, Modlinski, Sobolewskl, Teisl
and Messrs. Kreuser and Narlock. Mrs. Lindhorst. librarian,
also present.
ABSENT: Mrs. Dibb
Mrs. Lenz opened the meeting at 7:45 p.m.
Mr. Kreuser moved approval of the May 13, 1970 minutes, Mrs. Lelchtfuss
seconded and motion carried~
The next meeting will be held on JULY 8, 1970, 7145 P.M., BAY LANE
SCHOOL LIBRARY.
The secretary read a letter from W.L.T.A. acknowledging Mr. Narlock's
me~bership and enclosing his membership card. A letter from the
American Library Assoc. requesting a donation to their endowment fund
was also read.

Mrs. Modllnski moved approval of bills in the amount ot $1,649.13,
Mr. Kreuser seconded and motion carried.
Mrs. Lenz reported that whe will serve as acting chaIrman of the Friends
of the Library until such time as a permanent chairman is elected. The
Friends will meet Tues., June 16, 1910 to formulate plans tor a library
building fund raising driveo
Mrs. Mimier reported that Marsh Erdman Builders are too busy and not
interested in discussing costs of a pre-fab building. Link Builders
will contact Mrs. Lindhorst for specifications and submit an estimated
cost of a metal building. Mrs. Mimier and Mrs. Teisl will visit the
addition of the Waukesha Public Library to see how metal building con-
struction can be used for a library facility.
Mrs. Lindhorst reported that circulation has increased by 3,000 books
in the first five months of 19700
Mr. Narlock reoorted that Police Chief Kraus. is willing to cooperate
ln using the Police Department to collect long overdue books. Chief
Kraus suggested a form be prepared for their use. Mr. Narlock advised
that a co~y be sent to the safety committee. The secretary was in-
struoted to check on past policy regarding overdue books.
Mrs. Mimier moved to reestablish policy to utilize the pollce department
to collect long overdue books, Mrs. Sobolewski seconded and motion
carried.
Mr. Narlock reported that the city had ooncluded wage negotiations
with the dispatchers and police and will now start to review all other
city employee wage scales~ They will be ready for our July meeting.

Mrs. Lenz was advised to get in touch with Mayor Gottfried about ap-
pointing a committee to investigate the feasibility of a Joint school
and community lIbrary.
Mr. Kreuser reported that he will reoommend storage of out-dated books
at Denoon sohool but the request needs formal sohool board approval.
He suggested storage in boxes and that the library , board not hold the
school board responsible for damages or loss.
Mr. Kreuser moved that unt1l su1table space 1s available a group of
books prev1ously designated as representative of Ida Mae Haacke's
interests, which are to be replaced at intervals to keep the col-
lection current. shall be kept in a small book rack marked with the
memorial plaque and placed on regular library bookshelves. seconded
by Mrs. Sobolewski and motion carried. A walnut book rack was loaned
to the library by Mr. Kreuser for this purpose.
Mrs. Lenz reported that Mrs. Lindhorst and she had attended the
W.L.T.A. meeting at Delavan. She pas~ed out copies of the pre-
liminary draft of a Manual for Library Trustees 'of Wisconsin to
board members..
Mrs. Lindhorst reyorted that Mrs. Dibb is setting a new date for
publicity of the Woman's Club gift..
Mrs. Lenz was advised that it would be apnropriate to ask for Mr.
Popenfus' advice in research and oollection of historical material
for the Friends with the possibility that soclal studies students
could become involved w1th the project.
It was suggested that Mrs. Arlene Cardimona of the Hub be approached
about publishing a news story on the library's housing problem.
Board members met with Mr. and Mrs. Tony Cerwin of Burlington, owners
of the Humble Oil station on Lannon and 8y.24. before the meeting to
view the building and discuss possible rental terms and necessary im-
provements to make it useable as a library facility. Mr. Cerwin in-
formed the bo~~d that since Humble Oil Co. has a 5 year lease on the
building that has to meet wlththem about their plans before any
further steps^oan be discussed. He will get in touch with Mrs. Lenz
when he has more 1nformatlon~
Mr. Kre~ser moved to adjourn, Mrs. Modllnski seconded and motion
oarr1ed. The meeting adjourned at 8:45 p.m.
