Mayor Gottfried to the board.
Mayor Gottfried informed the board that the financial condition of the
city necessltates delaying the bUilding of a new city hall and library
for a m1nimum of four to five years. He wants to move the city offices,
~resently maintained In the annex, back to the city hall and have the
library move to other quarters. The Mayor suggested several posslbil-
lties for housing the library, which the board could explore. He sug-
gested combining the public library with a school library facility, or
to use the Denoon school building, the calvary Free Church building,
the Muskego post office building and he also offered to donate the space
in his building presently occupied by Blake Electronics when they move
to new quarters. The question was raised during discussion. whether
land owned by the oity at the present Civic Center site could be used
for building a library? Mayor Gottfried stated that land could be
made available there for that purposee It was decided to have the
building committee investigate the suggested buildings and report their
f1ndings at the June meet1ng. I It was suggested that a committee be set
up which would include a common council menber, school board member,
library board member, ArB" Lindhorst and a school librarian to investi-

~ Based on an estimated expense of repairs and replacements for damaged
or lost books and records, Mrs. Lindhorst was advised to include that
estimated cost in the 1971 book budget account.
A regular board meeting wlll be held on Wednesday, July 8, 1970.
Mrs. Lindhorst recommended three new pages, Annette Kauffman, Vicky
Iverson, and Loretta Luther. Two to be hired for the summer and one
in the fall. Mr. ~reuser moved to authorize the librar1an to hire
three pages, Mrs. Modlinsk1 seconded and motion carried.
Atter d1scuss1on of the advantages and disadvantages of a book amnesty
day, Mrs. M1mier moved that patrons known to possess long overdue books,
who choose to ignore due library procedure of reminder cards, phone calls
and bill for same, shall be denied book withdrawal prlvileges. seconded
by Mrs. Modllnski and motion carrled. Mr. Narlock will speak to the
pollee chief about using the police to collect long overdue books.
Mrs. Modlinski reported that the library has $779.72 ln the bank from
gifts. The library has recelv$d from the Friends of the Llbrary old
family Bibles and a Muskego map dated 1856 which will be displayed in
the library, extra copies may be purchased for ~1.50-~2.00. Mrs. Lind-
horst was advised to consult wlth Mr. Varick about reproducing an old
Wisconsin map.
The summer library progra~ at Tess Corners school was discussed and it
was noted that ciroulation had dropped off considerably during the past
years. We may also have a problem staffing it since Mrs. Repath has
reoommended closing the program and Miss Zahn is going to sohool. It
was suggested to ask Mrs. Repath to work and based on her reply, to open
the program for a trial period of three weeks and at the end of that
time to evaluate whether the demand just1fies the expense.
Mrs. Mimier reported she had received some brochures of design and
general costs of metal buildings and as soon as she receives more in-
formation she will pass 1t on to the board.
Mr. Kreuser read a oommunication from Co~mander Wm. Masclangelo of the
Admiral Farragut Academy regarding the safe arrlval of the model ship
the .tHartford" and he passed around the enclosed brochure prepared for
their Museum dedioat1on. Mr. Kreuser has had no further word about the
d1splay cases (they are part of an estate and still in probate).
Mrs. Lindhorst reported speaklng to Mr. Dahlen about the cost of and
I.B.M. typewr1ter us1ng the school d1scount. Mr. Dahlen will speak to
the salesman and let her know the price. She also informed us that the
publicity for the Woman's Clûb gift had to be cancelled until a later
date, due to illness.
.
Mr. Kreuser moved to reoonsider the motion made at the April 8, 1970
meeting, to eliminate the Ida May Haacke Memorial bookshelf, Mrs. Mimier
seconded and motion carriedo During the disoussion lt was explained
that due to the library's overorowding and patrons oomplaints of bump-
ing into the shelf it had been decided to temporarily remove the shelf

until the library moved to larger quarters.' It was pointed out that the
idea of the Memor1al Bookshelf was to promote Mrs. Haacke's interest in
youth, community and education and should be annually reviewed with that
in mind. Mr. Kreuser volunteered to take a look at the situation and
report back at the June meeting with a suggestion for better use of the
collection.
Mrs. Lindhorst was advised that all fringe benefits not covered by the
city are to be estimated and added to thã 1971 library budget. Mr.
Narlook will check into the classified e~ployee's wage scale and raises
and will seek advice on up-dating wa~e scales made three years ago.
Mrs. Mimler moved to adjourn, Mr. Kreuser seconded and motion carried.
The meeting adjourned at 10:15 p.~.
Respectfully submitted,
