Book binding coats wlll be lncresse4 this year because many books, having been in use for a long time, ',wlll have to be
repaired or replaced, and also because btndlng costs were budgeted ' ery low last year.
CaplLal outlay provides for tne purchase of additional card catalogue space and two double-faced book racks" This is the
minimum needed to take care of additional books and the .1.ncressing circulati.on. It 1s also the maximum that can possibly be fitted into present library Ipace.
A study of the Annual Report, giv1ng lome details of the library use, should be of help to the Plnance COlDJ1l1 ttee .In eValua~ing the proposed budget.
Th~ Library Board plans to meet with the Pinance Committee for detailed discussion of the budget.

In 1964 the book circulatlon lncreaaed 22 percent over
the prevlous yea.r. There has been a corresponding In("reaS8 in
other library servlces-. reference questlons, etc. . which
are not eas111 tabulated..
During June, July.. and August books were circulated
through the Tess Corners sc:hool library 1n addition to the
"uskego Public Library. "11L Valley .chool 11brar, was not
opened because- the services of a libra.rian were not s.va.1.1s.ble.
Pull use has been made of the Free Traveling Llbrary to
provide materials which are not in our colleotion.
The Library boasts a collection or 98 records~ thanks
to a generous donation of 150 specified tor record purer-ase.,
from the Newcomers CLub; purchase of some records from fine
money, and donations ot recorda by ~ndivtduaLE. The Kre~8er
ram~Ly made bins to store the records; Mr. Kapelka constructed
a table for the record player; and Mrs. Art Faucett made
durable, attractive bags for record carrY1ngg
The record collect1on includes childrenls stories,
.poetry readings, ~lasslcal mus1c, Bound tracks. and folk m~Blc.
Interest 1n record borrowing 18 g!'owlng 8atisfactorlly.. There
is consi&tent use of the records, and new borrowers are being

The l1brar,y makes use at voluntepr help whenever possible,
within the li.its of p~actlcabilit1. Prom time to time,
Girl Scout troops, as well as individual volunt@ers, come to
help wlth processing, tlling, and sh~lY1ng.
The change In op@ning hours has proved beneficial. The
librarl is now open four nlghts of the week, and Pridal and
Saturday afternoons. Peak circulations have levelled off,
and there Ls now a aore workable sltuatlon for providing
better service.

Some new equipment w11l be needed to house additional
books and to provide additLonal card catalogue space for
anticipated lncrea8eå circulatLon. Other than this, the
Library Doard plans nothing more than the minimum necessarl
tor maintaining library service at its present level~ With
the addition of the book stacks and the card cabinets, the
llcrary w111 have reacbed Lts absolute maxlmum in the use of
available space.
In future planning for the city of Kuskego it ls hoped
that the need for additional library space will be given
thoughtful consideration. Growth of the library snouLd k@ep
pace w\th growth of the ctty~ The people of Kuskego hav~
demonstrated the1r need for and their keen interest in th@
