"--=",,.~._""_.=-- This is the usual mid=year report of the Muskego Public Libr;uy Board concerrrl ng the activities of the Public Libr~ry. The Llbr@ry is now lodged in the l~,~r level of the Town H~llo We have found the quarters very satisfying", As you know, members of the Board donned old clothes 4liOO wielded paint brushes to make the Lib~ what we ~onsider to be one of the most attractive publi~ rooms in the Town of Muskego. There was $ome skep'ticism eoneern= 1ng the adaptability of this sp8(:;e in the Town Hall for Libr~ry purposes. We ean tell you now that this ~s grcundlesso Separating the Publi~ Library from the s~hool libr~TY h~s been ~ forward step from the st8ndpoint of both libTaries~ As of November 30, 1961 the library hâS circulated 19,686 books. This ~overs the period from June, 1960 through Nowember, 1961. We are circulating roughly 1,000 books a month. The figures for the last three months lü'e 940 for September; 1225 for October; and 1243 for November .~.. a steady increase. There are 1388card holders. Our book holdings number in excess of 1995 books.. Broken down, we have 1614 books fully processed and on the shel"Jes~ We hðve 381 books in the category of paperbilcks, ren~a1 books, etc. whi~h ;are only partly pro~essed. The rental books are returned from time to time Clnd the paperbacks have ~ short life. Thl!'frefore, the expense of complete eataloging is eliminated. Among our permanent collection of books not as yet e~töloged are a set of ComptonsU Encyclopedia, Blue Books dating b~ck to 1940, the Wis~onsln St~tutes önd many, m~ny books from various donors that have not 8S yet been sorted.. The number in this l~tter group we are un~ble to say, but would guess that there are several hundred of them. The Lib!'ary staff includes three people. MI's" PelEnaoo, Head Librarian; Mrs. Yahr, who 1$ in the library when Mrs. Pel~ann is not; and Mrs. Lindhorst, ~lerks All of these people are part time.. ThE! hours of Library ser-viee have been intireased from ') hours per week to 12 hours per week. Here, howevsz, time is impor- tant. A person needing the material immediately tqust necessarily be disappointed since there is time needed to order and receive su~;:h material.. The LibrU'J Board and our Librarian are well pleased with the progress being made In the Library.. we reel that the Libxary has been an execellent addition to the services available in Muskego. There is a very great potential in ",",skego for increased Library USG. We say this in view of the fact that we are ree_lving increased requests for material we do not have immediately available. The schools are teaching and hðve taught oUJ.' children a.tïd adults to read. It is one of the functions of the Library to a$~d$t. by providing interesting material for them to widen their reading horizons.. THE MU$.1(EGO PUBLIC LIBRARY BOARD Ida May Haacke.
