Fellow Board Membersl
I am subllitting a number of items for your consideration before we
meet with the T01III1 Board to discuss cur proposed budget for the coming year.
Item #1 is the proposed budget we adopted at our meeting of March 1st.
Total $10080.45. In reconsidering the matter, I feel that Alternate #1 is
the budget we should have fomally adopted, for a lUBber of reasons.
1. The amount of $1000 under Furniture and Equipment is obviously
not the amount of money we need for this purpose.
2. In adopting our budget, lacking any f01'lD&1 notice to the contrary,
we should have adopted a budget that would include not only our
needs equipment-wise, but also include housing costs.
3. If we receive an "OK" from the town regarding the use of the
basement for our library, THEN, we should sulDit Alternative #2.
Item #3 is a shortened list of 001' equipment needs and X would propose
that this be pxesented to the Town B.ioard, along with our Budget.
Item #4 is ä report to the Town Board, Mlich I would propose be the
report incorporated in the Townf s annual report, along with our finâncial
:report.
I have contacted Mr. Gottfried and he will inform me when our Board
and the Town Board can have an opportunity to meet and d'.scuss the matter.
As we have planned, we will meet before the meeting with the Town Board
and then, if you are in agreement, we can formally adopt the cofrect budget for
the sake of our records-
If you disagree with the contents of the report to the Town, plei!1Jse let
rrte know and we can arrange to prepare another one for submission to the Town
Board.
Sincerely
May Haac;ke
Originally, the Library Board felt that with the opening of school and the
availability of the school libraries, the juvenile circulation would almost cease
to exist in the PuDlici Ubrary. This has not been the case. Parents and thai;t'
chi Id1'en are using the library together. We have found, too, that the high school
students willll8ke more use of our library when the offerings are increased,
particularly in the reference and non-fiction area.
About plans Tor next year.
1. The Sehool Board has granted pe1'm1ssion to use the same three
elementary schools during a ten week period this summer.
2. The high school library will not be used during the sUIIiJ1er, fox
we can noltl serve the adults through the Public Library.
3. The Public: Library will remain open through the SunDer on the
same basis ... two evenings a week and Saturday afternoons.
4. We will try to increase our reference materials in the library.
5. We will have newspapers and magazines for reading by those
people who may wish to drop in and spend an hour or two
reading.
6. We will Med to increase our shelf space..
7. We will increase our juvenile collec"Gion of books.
8. We will increase the s12e of our book stock.
9. We will do everything possible to increase the use of the
libra:ey by adults <!nd high school students.
The people in the Town of Muskego have helped the Library Board prove that
a library is a valuable addition to the se:rvices being offered 1n the town. We
of the Board are convinced after this year of operation that as the Library
expands in its ability to serve moxe of the needs of the residents or ~tske90r
the use of the library will become moxe extensive.
We would strongly urge the Town Board and the residents of the Tom of
Muskego to do everything possible to encourage the formation of a County Library.
It is through facilities of this kind that the library will be in a better posi=
tion to give more complete library services to everyone.

TO PATRONS OF THE PUBLIC LIBRARY
Dear Friends:
The Muskego Public Library will soo \ have its first birthday. One year
ago, at the annual Town Meeting, you and other residents of the Town of Muskego
voted to appropriate $5,000 to start a public library.
Most of the residents in Muskego are happy that we have a small public
library and, certainly, most of you intend to use the books we have accumulated
in the past year, but it is to you, the people who have actually used this
library, that we are quite frankly directing this letter.
You mayor may not know that the annual meeting of the Town of Muskego
is held at 8:00 P.M. on election night 1n April... April 4, 1961 ... at the
high school. At this meeting all the fiscal affairs of the Town are brought
before you to discuss and approve. Included in this discussion will be a pro-
posed budget for the library. It will be somewhat larger than last year ... we have had a year of experience behind us and we will in a better position to
propose needs for a growing library operation.
During the year 7399 books were circulated, 872 residents have library
cards, and 1231 are now~the library shevles, wit~28 ready for cataloging.
Many of these-ãre the very fine books contributed by friends of the library
during the book drive. We want to expand the reading we can offer the children,
do more for the high school students, and certainly, do no less for the adult
users of the library.
May we ask that you mark April 4th on your calendar and that you be
present at the annual meeting ... at the high school... to add your voice
to the possible discussion of the library. I am sure we all want continuance
of the library and, too, we all want it to grow.
Sincerely
THE LIBRARY BOARD

~~s. Helen Pe1zmann, Librarian
P.S. Mrs. Pelzmann has requested that by means of this letter, we inform you
that the library cards issued during the summer months, last year, when
the school libraries were in operation, are the same cards used in the
library throughout the year. One card is all you need to use library
books, no matter where the library is operating.
