Under New Business, discussion took place regarding the City's contribution to the Wisconsin Retirement System for its
full-time elected officials. Alderman Sanders asked what the options were. Mayor stated that elected officials receive a benefit of 14.9% under WRS, with the City being required to contribute 10.2%. The level of benefit that the City will contribute has not been determined. Clerk-Treasurer Marenda presented the committee with dollar amounts for various levels
of contributions. Alderman Rasmussen asked if this was like receiving a pay increase; can it be done mid-term? Mayor stated it is a benefit and not part of salary. Aldermen D'Acquisto and Suhr stated it should be the same as for the nonrepresented
employees to be consistent. Alderman D'Acquisto moved to recommend that City contribution to the Wisconsin Retirement
System for full-time elected officials be 12.6% in 1997 and
fully funded by the City in 1998. Alderman Suhr seconded, carried.
