COMMON COUNCIL Minutes 20110809 COMMON COUNCIL - CITY OF MUSKEGO Approved: 08/23/2011 MINUTES OF MEETING HELD AUGUST 9, 2011 Mayor Chiaverotti called the meeting to order at 7:02 p.m. Present were Ald. Fiedler, Schaumberg, Soltysiak, Werner, Borgman, Harenda, Snead, and Deputy Clerk Blenski. Those present recited the Pledge of Allegiance. The Deputy Clerk stated that the meeting was noticed in accordance with the open meeting law on August 5, 2011. COMMUNICATIONS FROM THE MAYOR Mayor Chiaverotti stated the final “Jammin’ on Janesville” event was successful; she received several positive comments with requests to have more events in the future. The Mayor acknowledged the efforts of the Chamber of Commerce. Mayor Chiaverotti presented a Certificate of Recognition to Kathy Adelmeyer. The certificate recognized the dedication of all the volunteers that have served at the Muskego SHARE program site. Ms. Adelmeyer was the on-site coordinator for over 25 years, and will be stepping down from the position. The Mayor thanked Bill Simmons for bringing this to her attention as well as his participation in the program. CONSENT AGENDA Ald. Soltysiak requested that the June 14 Common Council minutes be removed from the Consent Agenda. Ald. Borgman moved to approve the remaining items. Ald. Soltysiak seconded. Motion carried 7 in favor. The following items were approved: Approval of Operator’s Licenses for: Shakil Ahmad, Kaylie Daniels, Susan Gruszka, Wendy Hahn, Andrea Kubsch, Lisa Krahn and Jessica Marten. July 12 and July 26, 2011 Common Council Minutes Reso. #114-2011 - Resolution Authorizing a Grant from the Approved Janesville Road Building and Grant Program (High Tide) Reso. #115-2011 - Approval of Continuation of Police Liaison Officer Program Reso. #116-2011 - Resolution Authorizing Expenditure to Replace Main City Hall Door NEW BUSINESS Common Council Minutes of June 14, 2011. Ald. Soltysiak stated that the last sentence under Reso. #065-2011 should indicate that it was the Mayor’s opinion that the deferral delayed the start of the project. Ald. Harenda agreed and noted that he does not believe the project was delayed. Mayor Chiaverotti stated she made the statement and whether it was correct or not is irrelevant. Ald. Harenda stated that he believes the statement that was made was not true and he would like the record to be corrected. Several Council members disagreed and believe that the Mayor made the statement based on information she received. Ald. Werner moved to approve the minutes. Ald. Fiedler seconded. Motion carried 5 in favor with Ald. Harenda and Soltysiak voting no. Common Council Minutes August 9, 2011 REVIEW OF COMMITTEE REPORTS The following minutes were reviewed: 6/28/2011 Finance Committee, 7/6/2011 Public Safety Committee, 4/9/2011 Police and Fire Commission and 6/23/2011 Community Development Authority. LICENSES Ald. Fiedler moved to approve a Temporary License to Sell Fermented Malt Beverages and Wine for Common Ground Ministry. The organization’s event, Refashion for Life, will be held on 9/22/2011 at Callen Construction. Ald. Werner seconded. Motion carried 7 in favor. VOUCHER APPROVAL Ald. Schaumberg moved for approval of payment of Utility Vouchers in the amount of $684,401.19. Ald. Fiedler seconded. Motion carried 7 in favor. Ald. Schaumberg moved for approval of payment of General Vouchers in the amount of $546,672.32. Ald. Fiedler seconded. Motion carried 7 in favor. Ald. Fiedler stated he would abstain from voting on the Tax Vouchers and left the room. Ald. Schaumberg moved for approval of payment of Tax Checks in the amount of $3,576.10. Ald. Snead seconded. Motion carried 6 in favor and Ald. Fiedler abstaining. CITY OFFICIALS’ REPORTS Mayor Chiaverotti stated that the first budget meeting will be held on Thursday, 8/11. COMMUNICATIONS AND MISCELLANEOUS BUSINESS Ald. Snead gave an update regarding some upcoming events, including the community festival. ADJOURNMENT Ald. Snead moved to adjourn at 7:21 p.m. Ald.
