CCM20080415-Org COMMON COUNCIL - CITY OF MUSKEGO MINUTES OF ORGANIZATIONAL MEETING HELD APRIL 15, 2008 Approved 4/22/2008 The meeting was called to order at 7:33 p.m. by Mayor Johnson. Present were Ald. Fiedler, Schaefer, Melcher, Werner, Borgman, Pavelko and Snead, City Administrator Sheiffer, and Clerk-Treasurer Moyer. City Attorney Eric Larson was also present. Those present recited the Pledge of Allegiance. The Clerk noted that the meeting was noticed in accordance with the open meeting law on April 10, 2008. NEW BUSINESS Ald. Melcher presented comments as the outgoing Alderman of District 5. The Honorable Judge Robert Mawdsley administered the oath of office to: John R. Johnson Mayor Tracy Snead Alderperson District 1 Neil Borgman Alderperson District 3 William Schneider Alderperson District 5 Patrick Berigan Municipal Judge A Certificate of Election was given to each elected official. Ald. Schneider took his place at the Council table. Judge Mawdsley congratulated the officials on their election to office and spoke briefly. Mayor Johnson, Aldermen Snead, Borgman and Schneider presented their comments as newly elected officials, as well as Judge Berigan. Reso. #071-2008 – Expressing Appreciation to Bob Melcher. Borgman moved for adoption. Snead seconded. Motion carried 7-0. Mayor Johnson presented the resolution to Bob Melcher. ELECTION OF COUNCIL PRESIDENT Mayor noted a simple majority vote was needed and ballots did not have to be initialed. On the nominating ballot, the following nominations were made: Alderman Snead Alderman Werner Alderman Schaefer On the first election ballot, the following votes were cast: Alderman Snead 5 Alderman Werner 1 Alderman Schaefer 1 Common Council Organizational Meeting April 15, 2008 Page 2 Alderman Snead was elected President of the Common Council. ELECTION OF COUNCIL REPRESENTATIVE TO THE PLAN COMMISSION Mayor noted a 2/3 vote was required and ballots needed to be initialed. On the nominating ballot, the following nominations were made: Alderman Fiedler Alderman Schaefer On the first election ballot, the following votes were cast: Alderman Fiedler 7 Alderman Fiedler was elected to serve as Council Representative to the Plan Commission. ELECTION OF COUNCIL REPRESENTATIVE TO LITTLE MUSKEGO LAKE PROTECTION AND REHABILITATION DISTRICT The Mayor noted that a majority vote is required and ballots must be initialed. On the nominating ballot, the following nominations were made: Alderman Borgman Alderman Fiedler Alderman Werner On the first election ballot, the following votes were cast: Alderman Borgman 5 Alderman Fiedler 1 Alderman Werner 1 Alderman Borgman was elected to serve as Council representative to the Little Muskego Lake Protection and Rehabilitation District. The Mayor announced some of his committee appointments. He stated that Reso. #072-2008 was being removed. The Council took a brief recess. City Attorney Eric Larson presented information regarding open meeting and public records laws. Snead moved to adjourn at 9:25 PM. Fiedler seconded; motion carried.
